New TL owner

Hello everyone.
Just got 2012 TL with Tech Package a couple of weeks ago and joined your forum today.
After driving the TL for 3 weeks I have mixed feelings about my decision. It is a nice car, loaded with gadgets, nice features etc., but after all isn't really worth 40k?
Sound system is average at best, suspension very noisy, there is a rattling noise coming from front passenger door, clunks from the back. Is this normal?

Greetings

for the rattles either try to nail them down urself, or take it to the dealer ... and the clunks might wanna have the dealer check that out too ... atleast the car is still under warranty

Yes, take it back to your dealership and show them your concerns. Sorry to hear you're not really excited about your purchase.

If that doesn't work, we'll have to change your Acurazine name!

Thank you guys.
One other question - how accurate are TPMS in your cars. TPMS readings are almost 4 psi higher than values measured by an external pressure gauge.
High temps in St. Louis push the tire pressure to 40psi. I wanted to vent some air to make the ride more enjoyable, and then I noticed the big difference.

My tire guy told me that the TPMS sensors are generally as, if not more, accurate than most external gauges. Also, there's wide variability amongst the external gauges, some being more reliable than others.

Sorry to hear of issues.

TPMS are generally spot on.

Did you get SH-AWD?

I find the ELS stereo one of the best factory installed systems I've ever heard - i'm curious what you're coming from that you find its average

As for the rattles/clunks, that's unacceptable imo - dealer should repair immediately

Worth $40K? All in the eye of the beholder - for my money, worth every penny, especially compared to what the competition is offering

Welcome and congrats on the purchase!

Rattles can be fixed. I wouldn't be too worried about that.

You need to get it back to the dealer so they can address your concerns. Nothing like issues like this to promote buyers remorse. Keep us updated on the situation, it really is a nice car.

The ELS system is really good for a factory setup. The only one that I've heard that's better is in the new Lexus'. I'm pretty picky when it comes to audio too.

What audio source are you listening to when you say the sound quality is bad? From a CD (a REAL CD, not a burned audio CD, which may or may not have had good quality source files) it should sound really good. DVD Audio should sound even better, but good luck finding DVD-A discs.

Bluetooth sounds slightly worse than having a tethered USB device to me. I've tried my iPhone in both configurations and prefer it via USB. Even then, again, sound quality will depend on your source audio files.

XM sounds horrible, flat out. I've owned 3 new cars in the past few years (this TL, an Evo X w/ Bose system, and a Mazda 3S GT with Bose) and XM sounds horrible in all of them where other audio sources sound much better. On cars with crappier audio setups you can't really tell, but with slightly higher end stuff you can really hear imperfections - and XM's low bitrate streams sound awful.

Side note - I did a rip and replace of everything in the Evo X and XM still sounded bad, so it definitely wasn't the system's fault. :-p

Thanks again for all your comments.
I got the front wheel drive model.
Since the car came with 3-month free XM subscription I've been mainly listening to XM.
I will test the Audio again with a CD.

Audi A4 S-Line was one other car was seriously considering before getting the Acura. It was equipped with Bang & Olufsen speakers and it sounded great.
More spacious TL won my wife's vote :-)

Greetings

i put 32psi. mine changes to 34-38psi if i dont use the car for like 4-5 days (it's a weekend car), but after driving maybe 2-3 miles it goes back to 32psi all 4 of them.

Welcome to AZ, The TPMS sensors will usually read 2-3 psi higher than when I check the pressure with a tire gauge.

Yep XM sounds horrific. I am he distant to transfer the subscription over to the car from the Pioneer Inno or not. I want to try XM radio through their iPhone app plugged in via USB to see if it sounds better. But they warn you that the app uses a lot of data. I have a high data plan but I don't know how quick the app will eat up the GBs. Spotify uses hardly any data at all and sounds great via USB. We'll see!
