Just picked up a 2009 TL AWD for 11K with 180KM on it! Sweet ride especially coming from a 1999 Honda Accord that served me well for 8 years. I expect to get as much if not more with this beauty!

Couple of questions for you guys:

Is that a good deal for this car? It seemed like it considering I put 1500KM on it in one day and no issues so far! (besides blown front right speaker and cracked fogs, which I already knew about)

The timing belt was done at 92,000 KM at the dealer from the previous owner with a handy sticker on the engine, and it spent its life in Edmonton Alberta. When do you guys expect I will be doing this big job, just to plan ahead. (I love this maintenance minder thing, makes these kinds of things very simple). I currently live in Yellowknife, Basically a few hundred Km from the Arctic Circle so needless to say it gets incredibly cold (below -35 for a majority of the winter). When should I get this timing job done? - With that said my honda accord had a J series v6, I put 130,000KM on it and never did the timing job ever and no idea about the previous owner so that original belt might have 380,000KM on it and the car works just the same as when I bought it more or less.

Also I would like to fix the fog lights. Anyone have a link to a cheap set of aftermarket housings (preferably projectors for HIDs). Otherwise any recommendations for a repair job to fog lenses?

congrats on the car... take good care of her. I do agree the maintenance minder does come in handy to keep the driver updated on the car's condition. Post more pictures!!

Congrats on your purchase!

The timing belt service should be done every 100,000km in those conditions. Along with the timing belt, replace the spark plugs and do the valve cover gasket. Look out for the oil pump leak and get it resealed while the timing belt job is being done.

Since you have an SH-AWD, please keep an eye on your oil level. The 3.7L engine is prone to burning oil, some a lot more than others. If you do start burning oil, your options are a heavier oil or going to acura and requesting a new engine.

For the fogs, buy some plastic lenses and glue them in.

Congrats on the TL and welcome to AZ....

I couldn't even imagine -35 degrees... I hate NY winters and they are nothing compared to what you deal with..

Thanks!

Yeah it gets insanely cold, weird to say but you get used to it. With the windchill it gets below -50 some nights. I will have to make a cold start video for you guys to see how the 3.7 engine performs with and without the blockheater plugged in during the winter.
I'll also get some nice shots of the car out on the great slave lake ice roads, which I expect the SHAWD to handle nicely! What excites me most about the cold is no hydro steering on this car so there wont be the terrible whine you get when first starting on a super cold day.

Also the manual only states one type of oil to be used 5W20, but it gets so cold here should I put 5W30 here?

Getting a new engine for oil consumption eh? My old J series did the same thing, but I'm not sure what excessive consumption would be. I'll be sure to keep an eye on it! And yea for the fogs I was hoping there would be an aftermarket projector hidden somewhere on the net but I couldn't find anything, I'll probably do the repair job.

I would go full synthetic. If this was oil change was done by Acura, it maybe an Oil Blend. Congrats on new ride. I see they put mud flaps on it as well. Nice.

Thanks man, those look sweet! The only issue it says 2012-2014, don't tell me Honda changed the fitting for the fogs for the TL during production years... I have a 2009, these wont fit?

They won't fit. The Morimoto's are only for 2012 and up.

Whats up Yellowknife huh? I was out in Fairbanks for 3 years FML. Any way with this car it does burn oil so every 3rd fill up check your oil. I know the manual does say 5W-20 but in the Winter time I would at least do 0W-20. You guys plug your cars in like Fairbanks? The lower the W number is the better cold start ups occurs. When that happens less wear and tear and oil flow thur the engine. Summertime you can do the 5W-20. In Alaska most of the guys used Royal Purple and Pennzoil Ultra when I was there. But get you a good Synthetic Brand ain't sure what you guys have available out there. Also before winter starts I would do a whole fluid swap. What fluid to use its up to you.. Amsoil or Eneos ain't bad just make sure you don't cheap out and everything is synthetic if available. The fog you have the 09-11 when mines broke I just went OEM because they was no alternatives.

Yeah all the Acuras sold in Alberta come with block heater plug in. We have access to everything we need up here so I will try to find a good 0W-20 when it gets a bit colder.

A quirk that I found out is the rear defrost is connected to the side mirror heat, should of been a separate button as it takes so much less time to warm your mirror than your rear glass. The result is overtime my side mirror has burn marks on the glass so I also have to replace the mirror portion which doesn't look to hard of a job I hope. Also mentioned here before, the remote start is terribly designed with the engine turning off after you open your door. Who came up with this feature!!?? I'm glad it has remote start but wow, scratching my head on that one... it adds unnecessary cycles to the engine.

Congrats on the TL! A month or so ago I picked up a FWD same year for $7k but 230k miles. I've already put a couple grand into it. AWD and half the miles as mine for 11k? Sounds like an amazing deal to me.

Thank you sir, yeah I saw your other thread. That was my biggest fear of course with buying the car getting a lemon but so far so good. Everything works as it should except a couple minor easy fixes ( fog light glass, door speaker, door mirrors and the rear seat headrest button is missing). I'm glad that the drivetrain and engine will last that high, roughly 350,000km on yours. You did the timing job yourself so I'm sure you will get all the kinks out of your Acura and love it like I do!

And XLR8 rep, in the future I will definitely upgrade the exhaust on it. I've seen youtube videos of the car with your pipes and it sounds amazing. I had a full system on my old accord with the first J series, J30A1 v6 and I love having a nice sounding car! Hopefully you guys ship to canada for reasonable rates.
