New Floor Jack Recommendations?

Hi everyone. I am in the market for a new floor jack that can start real low and get it up real fast. Looking for something of quality that will last a long time. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks Gregg

my harbor frieght one works wonders.. and for 10 bucks more you get 3 year warranty for leaks.. it came out to be less then $100.. its a very low profile jack as well.. im lowered, maxed out on my tein ss and i am still able to jack it up.

http://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-l...8050-8048.html

but obviously i got mine at a sale.. you can wait.. for a sale to come through.

i know people will say dont buy HF shit.. but with this jack.. i have good experiences.

Yup... I agree with this. The Harbor Freight jack is a great buy!

Sometimes Costco has basically the same jack for about $99.00.

I personally spent a bit more on craftsman--can't remember the price but I didn't want to skimp on something that critical.

ALSO! If you plan on crawling under your car after jacking it up. MAKE SURE YOU USE JACK STANDS!!!! It's way too dangerous to trust a jack, especially if you will be man-handling nut/bolt removal.

Be safe...

Ive had nothing but good experiences with harbor freight stuff. Im not jacking up a car everyday, but i do brakes/rotors , oil changes, tranny drain fill and tire rotations at home for myself and family friends, and the tools i picked up from HF always held up nicely. They also have coupons for 20% - 25% off on a single item, if i get one again, ill post up the code. Also, keep an eye out on slickdeals.net for some jacks, ive seen low profile jacks on sale over there.

Harbor Freight is fine as long as you are not looking for anything the requires precision. A jack is not a precision piece of equipment... I have 2, a 1 ton and a 3 ton. Get the 3 ton when it is on sale.

I would go with Costco or Harbor Freight. I have a Costco-source jack that I bought 7 years ago and it works very well and gets pretty low too. With Costco, there is no need to buy any additional warranty since you just take it back and get a new jack. I have never had a problem with a Costco tool but I'm about to return a beach chair that went to crap after 2 years.

I have also bought Harbor Freight tools and they work well too. I use HF torque wrenches and they compare very well with Craftsman. I did have an issue with an Impact driver from Harbor Freight when a bit shattered on me in a middle of a brake job- not cool. With that in mind, I recommend Costco over Harbor Freight.

a jack is only to jack up the car.. as long as it does that you are fine... no need to worry about it "falling" because obviously you would not get under a car without jackstands..

no point of dropping 200 bucks for you to only use your jack for a min or two while you put the jack stands up... Pittsburgh works fine.

Harbor Freight can be a hit or miss depending on the item. I have 2 jacks from them. One is fine but the other struggle to lift my TL (Yes, the TL is within it rated weight capacity).
If you want the discount coupon just get on their site and have them send you their flyers. You can also find their ad within automotive mags which will also have the coupon.

Which jack struggled to lift the TL? I know there "Aluminum Racing" jacks blow, but the "Heavy Duty" ones are pretty durable. They changed the color on them now to that gunmetal brown color in the link Potz posted. They use to be orange back when I picked mines up around 4-5 years ago

thats because the "low pro" ones are rated for a think a ton and a half.
get the "low pro" one that is able to lift 3 tons and you'll raise the car with ease.

Very Important Note:
I have the Craftsman 3-Ton Jack. It is not a low profile, but it does fit under my stock SH-AWD.
The issue I have is trying to get the rear of the car high enough off the ground to get my jack stands under the side of the car.

My Craftsman has a max saddle height of 19.75"
This is not enough.

I would say you need at least 21" Preferably 24" (Like the one Potz has)

The above jack is only good for 20"

Costco switched out from the Arcan XL325R to the Arcan HJ2500.

The XL325R was, in my opinion, the better jack. All steel construction with a higher minimum (3.75" vs 3.5" of the old) and lower maximum (18.6" vs. 21.375"). The design of the HJ2500 doesn't allow it to get as far under a car either. The advantage of the newer model is that the HJ2500 is partially aluminum and weighs 30 lbs less (60 vs 99).

I bought the HJ2500 today and was comparing it to my XL325R. Kind of a let down but I needed a second jack anyway. Buying at Costco gets you a lifetime warranty.
