New to 4G but not to the TL

Hello Guys,

So I did what I didn't think I would do. I traded in my 3g TLS for a 4g SHAWD. I gotta say it has been a bitter sweet experience. Although the look of the 4g is definitely growing on me, I do miss my 3g dearly. I had no options as I recently hit a deer on the highway with my 3g at about 85 mph, and the car took a beating. My insurance ended up repairing the car, but there were many things wrong with it, and I just didn't want to take the risk of having problems with the car in the future, and it was decently high mileage 125k, so I figured might as well go for the 4g SHAWD since its the end of the year.

I was able to get a 2012 SHAWD TECH for 35k plus TTL ... how did I do? I feel like I did alright, but you guys know better than me.

Anyway, I'm sure you want to see the pics of the car so enjoy the iphone pics!
Its Basque Red Pearl on Taupe.

Congrats on the purchase. I dont have a 4g myself but I think you did well on the price. If I decide to get another 4dr car it will definitely be the 2012+ 4g

Thanks, looking at some of the values of this car on websites, I feel pretty good about it. Still missing my 3g a lot, hoping to add some touches to this car to make it feel personal again

Congrats - if you are like me, you will fall in love with the 4G. It is far superior to my G35 cpe that I owned (or even the Dodge 3500 Cummins) for handling and ride quality as well as interior features, so I'm sure you will end up with an ear to ear grin like most of us have.

I'm curious as to why you miss the 3g over the 4g. Only curious.

It seems you had a lot invested in the 3G both financially and emotionally but that stuff will fade. Having had 2 3G's of my own, I'll take the 4G any day, styling controversy included. You will warm up to it, buyer's remorse always plays a small part too. Also, that is a killer deal, good timing in picking up a 2012. Did you include the 3G in a trade?

Congrats VQ. It sounds like you made a smart move on getting the 4G TL. It was a sad story about your 3G TL.

Your new 4G is gorgeous-love the color. Definitely save that first picture so you'll remember your 3G-that's wallpaper material, right there....

Congrats and welcome to the 4G,love the colour combo.

The emotional attachment to your 3G will pass, but i know how it is when you have had your car for a long time.

Enjoy your new ride.

No that price was before the trade, the actual amount of pocket was significantly less, thanks for the welcome!

I sure hope so, the awd system is sweet, and I do enjoy pushing it in the curves ... just the look of the car isnt as nice as the 3g IMO, but its decent

I think the 3g is a gorgeous car, and I think the 4g looks decent, but no where near how good the 3g looks.

Yes I ended up trading in my 3g, I probably couldnt afford to keep both comfortably, and wouldnt want a car with that much damage anyway. I hope this car grows on me more.

Congrats and welcome. As has been said already, your 3G will be a distant memory soon. I missed my 2G RL for a while too.

Thanks for the welcome guys ... the more I look through some of the pics of cars on this forum, the slowly I feel like Im warming up to the 4g. Already have a tentative list of what I want to do to the car, and will slowly add it onto the car over the years.

Right now, probably just tint, and after I go through my stock tires, I might upgrade to the Advance Wheels, as I really thing they set the car off.
Does the 4g have the same problem as the 3g in terms of scraping up the tint, and is moleskin a must on this car as well?

^thanks guys ... yea TLtrigirl, i have been tracking it, someone is gonna get a car that has been taken care of very well ... hopefully the car wont have a bunch of problems from the accident, but the fact that a GM body shop put it back together im guessin the chances of having issues from the car will be pretty high

OP...I am a little bit late to the party so let me apologize for wishing you the warmest of welcome to the 4G forum and CONGRATS on your 2012! Your TL looks amazing and love the color. Another member here bought a 2013 RDX in that color from the same dealer as me and love his RDX too!! I wish I could stray away from white but I always get pulled in even though I know many nice colors are out there...as in the one you chose.

I know the 3G is a very gorgeous car but trust me, the tide is turning and people are starting to appreciate the beautiful design of the 4G. You will only get to appreciate the SH-AWD even more with time and you will learn to live without the tape cassette *lol* All kidding aside, it is normal to miss a vehicle that we have enjoyed and taken care of for many years....God knows I pamper my vehicles so I get the attachment you develop with a vehicle.

In any event, enjoy your 2012 and I will say one thing...I love the 2012 wheels of the TL. I know many people here buy accessory wheels but these are so gorgeous, I would be amazed you could find something nicer. But that is just me

^ Looks like it ... I have been tracking it every day, I was hoping someone on the forums would buy so I know it went to a good home, but hopefully the next owner takes care of it the way I did ... I appreciate all the warm welcomes on the 4g side
