New 2012 Advance Owner...What to look for??
Hello Acurazine community! I've been reading these forums since I was a youngster, dying to get a 3G TL lol. Wound up with a 2003 TL w/Nav and she now has 216,000 miles on her. Still runs great and I may sell it. I just purchased a 2012 Graphite Luster Metallic Advance last night and I'm pretty excited about the purchase! 54k for $23,880 interior in perfect condition. Exterior is excellent, one chip to have touched up and only one of the rims has a small scratch. I was interested in the extended warranty but did not jump on it when I purchased the vehicle. Now I'm starting to rethink that decision. Help! Lol Also, I was wondering what issues I should look for once the miles get in this range. My 2003 has had NO major issues, which is one of the reasons I stuck with Acura. Thanks for reading and hopefully I learn a lot form the other 4G owners!

Cmorrow, I also just purchased a 2012 advanced FWD. I did a lot of reading on this forum and other places about the reliability of these cars prior to buying. There is some discussion on torque converter problems. I focused on how the transmission performed during my test drive. This transmission is different than any car I have had. Most auto trannys since the early 90"s go through the gears and transition to "torque lock" in the final gear or overdrive. This thing torque locks in lower gears. With the car in lower gears at lower speeds there is a vibration from the engine that can be felt under 1500 RPM. I think this is because the torque lock makes it feel like a manual and the torque converter doesn't hydraulically absorb these engine vibrations at lower rpms. I don't mind this because this car has 100 more horsepower than my previous BMW and gets 4-5 more mpg in the rural area I live. I do have a sound on cold mornings that is like a girgling or chirping for a few seconds on initial startup. Learned on this forum that this might be the transmission filter that is not replaced during the dealership transmission service. They simply drain and fill. I ordered this filter and plan to change it out this weekend. My car was purchased with 80K miles on it and has 85K now. This has been the only issue.
I opted to not buy the extended warranty because it was over 1500$ and would only take me to 120K. I have accepted that risk. I usually keep cars 10 years. If I have to replace the transmission, I'll eat the cost then.
I saw where you entered the other thread on extended warranties. If the warranty gives you piece of mind, go for it. But don't go 3rd party. Get something the Acura dealer will honor.

Thanks for the heads up and congrats on the new car! That's the only thing I could consistently find here is the torque converter. Will keep an eye out for it. I plan on having this car for some time as well...my 2003 has 216,000 miles on it and still runs great! How do you like the FWD?

Congratz on the purchase. Great looking car, love the wheels ! I would say to watch out for the seam in the seat. Press your finger over the bottom horizontal seam in the seat(the one that goes along your lower back), check to see if anything is protruding a bit towards the corners. You can find this easier when you engage the lumbar all the way. A number of members have reported this, I'm not sure if its a issue or just a few isolated incidents. I am having the dealer rip the seat apart and fix it.

Thanks guys! Haven't had a chance to check out the seam yet, but I did just get to drive it in snowy conditions out in the Annapolis/Baltimore area. Did just fine but didn't push too hard. Overall I'm extremely happy with the purchase. Only surprise is gas consumption but it's definitely worth it!

Nice ride!
I also have a 2012 SHAWD advance (mine is forge silver). I would say, keep an eye on the propeller shaft (there are a few threads about it, just Google it), some have a whine (high pitch sound) that gets louder and louder over time. Mine was replaced this year at 26K under warranty.
The shaft is covered under the power train warranty, so you should still be covered (although you are getting right there with your mileage). If the car records are available, check if the shaft has been already replaced, if so you may not have to worry about it.
Good luck and enjoy the ride!

Annapolis! Want a free pair of weather DigitalFit floormats? They are the old ones before they had the locks in them but still would be great in this weather. I'll be in Annapolis this weekend. Figured i would share the generosity as someone on this forum gave me a truck mat for just the cost of shipping.
