Need info on 3.7L replacement block
I have been trying to research replacement blocks for the 3.7L engine.
Mine is being replaced by Acura for excessive oil use. What has been done by Acura to insure that the replacement block will not suffer the same problem?
As far a I can see, one of three problems exist:
1. Cylinder walls were improperly prepared.
2. Rings were improperly installed with gaps lining up
3. Rings and cylinder walls were incompatible resulting in excessive wear.
Does anyone have information on what modifications, if any, have been done?
Thanks

As far as what I've gleaned by perusing these boards, Acura has been absolutely silent on the issue and hasn't done anything other than replacing short/long blocks as needed per failed consumption tests. Some users are on their second or third engines and still have oil consumption issues.

So I was told today that when Acura corp replaces a short block. That's it, The engine assembly and gaskets. They pay the dealership less money than normal and the book hours are way under what they should be. So the mechanics doing this are getting the shaft also. Bonus, when the heads are reused, if they are not decked. You're gonna have a bad time after mating to the new block. Hence why people with new short blocks are still consuming oil. Acura really is screwing the pooch with this F'up. I know I will never buy one of their cars again. Edit, Spend the extra money. Have the heads decked
