Hi All,

This is my first post here on Acurazine. I have been browsing the forums for about a month now.

I am looking for some help/advice purchasing a TL.

I recently fell in love with the Acura SH-AWD TL. I don't have the cash to afford a brand new one unless I leased it. Which could be an option, I would do a lease with the intention to buy.

Ideally, I would like a 2010 Acura SH-AWD TL w/ Tech Package. I live in Massachusetts, there are many 2009, 2010, 2011 etc.. available, the question is... What is the right price/miles etc..

Lets say my goal is to own a 2010 Acura SH-AWD TL w/ Tech Package. Ideal price around $25,000. Ideal mileage, is 30,000-40,000.

I test drove a 2010 SH-AWD TL w/ Tech package last week. Based on the Carfax, it had 1 owner, 45,000 miles. It's in great condition (from what I can tell) there are a few minor burn marks at the top of the passenger side window, looks like someone failed at smoking a couple cigarettes. They have it listed at $26,775. I offered him $25,000 and he said this wouldn't be possible. I asked him how much he could come down, he said only a few hundred. I told him thanks, left and he followed me out, then did the old "hold on one second" went back inside, came back out and said "we'll be in touch". I told him to give me a call if he could come down at all, or if anything else came in. They do have a 2009 Acura 2009 with about 30,000 miles for $1,000 less, but it doesn't have a tech package (something I really really want!).

The car has been on the lot since June 2nd...

What do you all think... Are my expectations set right? Any recommendations? Anything I should be worried about regarding the 2009 and 2010... number of miles, common problems etc..

Should I go to a dealer? Or a well regarded high-end used car store (similar to the place i test drove the Acura www.autobahnusa.com)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I look forward to your responses and advice. And will hopefully be an Acura owner shortly!

Thanks again.

One other thing...

The 2010 TL with 45,000 miles. I was a little concerned since it was a lease, they had put an average of 20,000 miles on it for 2 years. I was assuming this was a daily driver for a commuter... so mostly highway miles? -- Not sure what to think, someone could have babied it... or they could have driven the hell out of it for 45,000 miles since it is a lease.

Try to come back at the dealership at the end of the month if you aren't in a hurry to buy the car. Otherwise, the price seems quite good for the car.

If you have trusted mechanic to check on the car before you buy it, that would be a good idea as well

Seems like an OK price for the car. If it's been on the lot at that price since June 2, you might have room to move the price. If you're seeing a lot available, you should be able to get a decent idea of how good the price is, since there are likely to be a few priced pretty aggressively.

In general, I don't think you need to worry about problems -- at least for me, the Acura reliability was a big selling point to the car. Good luck with the hunt.

I too battled with the same questions over the last 2 weeks.

My
The price you mentioned $26.8K is one of the lowest I have seen listed for a clean carfax 2010 SH-AWD Tech in New England region. FWIW I closed the deal on an 2010 TL SH-AWD Tech yesterday in Mass for $27,300.

More and more 2010 TL's are going to be coming off lease and their availability is going to pick up significantly after october. This will inturn help reduce the price point. If you are willing to wait a few months then you can easily get the price point you are looking for, however the mileage might be between 42-48K. The additional inventory might also help if you have a particular color combination that you are intereseted in.

you aren't going to get that deal for 25k, you could get a FWD Tech 09-10 with 35-40k miles for that price, but expect a few K more for the AWD...

Thanks for the tips.

I was a little concerned about the 45,000 miles in 2 years, I am beginning to think they were mostly highway miles. Probably going to keep looking around, and try to get the best possible deal. I REALLY want it in Black, this one happens to be in Silver... The black looks so so nice.

No rush really.. other than wanting to drive an Acura!

Although it is not always the case, in my opinion, 45000 highway miles is much better than lets say, 20000 miles that driven in stop & go traffic all the time.

Yea, thats what I meant to say. I was concerned that 45,000 miles had been put on the car in 2 years, but thinking they are mostly highway miles (so a little less concerned).

It could actually be one of the early 2010 tl's that sold off the lot in the fall of 2009?
So those 45k miles may have even been put on in 2 1/2 - 3 years. Not too bad if there hwy miles.
The price point sounds decent to me.

Is this car a CPO at this price? If yes, that is worth something.

I just picked up a CPO 2010 TL SH-AWD 6MT w/ Tech with 25K miles in NJ for $30K (with the body kit!). Test drove 3 different ones before deciding I wanted a CPO car. I am glad I paid more for the Certified warranty. The other ones I found has some mods, slight vibration on the highway, etc. The CPO car was perfect, and I have piece of mind, I would highly recommend find one.

You should be able to get a 2009 TL-Tec SH-AWD with 30k or fewer miles for $25 or maybe a bit less. I owned just such a car and after getting the rattle in the rear deck fixed, the car was flawless and fun to drive.

Here is another Tip: You can look for a car that is CPO evaluated. Then when the pricing negotiation is all done you can you can ask to opt out of CPO program and take a separate Acuracare warranty if the factory warranty is still valid on vehicle (i.e less than 4yr, 50,000 miles) . The cost to dealer is about $475, so you can bargain atleast a $450 credit. This way you get the benefit of knowing that he vehicle is already CPO evaluated, and deemed to have passed it.

What I did was take a Acura care warranty which extended the Bumper to Bumper coverage to 7 yrs/100K instead of the CPO Programs Powertrain Only warranty for 7/100. The extra $750 it cost me, as compared to CPO, worthwhile for me to have a 4 additional years of Bumper to Bumper warranty instead of the 12 month provided by CPO. YMMV depending on inservice date and mileage of car.
