MPG, S mode Qs
Good morning,
So i have put almost 1000 miles on our used 2013 TL SHAWD w/tech package, and we love it. i am doing the oil consumption test as we speak.
i wanted to ask what kind of mpg are most of you getting on freeway. i drive about 30 miles all freeway above 60mph each way. my average is showing 21,5 i am sitting in traffic on the way home though,. i did try driving in S mode but i noticed in S mode
the trans shifts higher,. and holds that rom for second before shifting., i think manual shift was more efficient. I did put new spark plugs OEM NKGS, and installed a Takada air intake. i do have a OBD reader and my air temps are about 49 deg F.
That 3.7 sounds soooo good especially VTEC kicks inn. back in the day i had a JDM B18C and that was loud but this is a whole another level.

here's the thing with fuel mileage...you wont be able to compare to other people because other people have different driving habits than you, they also have different commutes than you.
the best way to compare is to take the MID readings...
average speed and average time and average mpg.
with that being said...in my 2006 acura TL 6MT, I get about 20-21mpg. Less if I really lay into the skinny pedal

^yeah, commutes and driving habits determine your MPG.
I have a 2012 6MT.
I never let any car idle to warm up.
Temps have been anywhere between 20F and 70F here.
My drive is 80 miles round trip. Almost 50% highway vs suburbs in the Chicago area. Once I'm on the highway, I'm constant-cruising like 80-90mph. Maybe some stretches of 100+. Due to record low COVID influenced traffic.
You'd think suburban driving helps. But...remember that you're speeding up to the 45-55mph limit and then stopping for red lights every 6 feet.
This car also has full time 4WD, a massive V6, and weighs 3800LB...you know...like a SUV. The only saving grace is that it has better aero drag than a SUV.
I get like 22ish on the MID. Which is like 20 to 21 in real life.
On a 900 mile drive (no stopping except for gas), I did like 23-24mpg on the MID. I was setting my cruise at 75-80.
I'm sure it'll improve slightly with summer blend gasoline and consistently warm temps soon.

Agree.
only think I dint like are the shift points, it shifts up way to early and not enough torque to move car so you end up down shifting. If I can change the shift points in D mode it be perfect. In S mode with no manual shift, it holds the rpm way to long before it up shifts. Like it sits at 4k or 5k for 10 sec before it realizes I'm cruising and it can go next gear

The inconvenient truth
When you get to know the car better you can get it to shift up or down depending on throttle input. Maybe even as the car gets to know you a little better. Like it won't upshift if you are adding throttle but then it will if you let off a little.
One thing for sure is that it will do its best to achieve good gas mileage by upshifting asap if you are light on the throttle. Try giving it more gas then let off around the spot where you want it to shift.
