Miss my 4G TL 2012 Tech SH-AWD

What a beautiful car, My lease expired in the past September and begrudgingly I gave the car back. I bought a 2015 Subaru legacy with cloth seats and nav + sunroof. What a piece of junk. Spend the extra 10 grand or get used a car. Subaru sucks. Acura makes a beautiful car. I tracked the car after I returned it and saw it on sale in Georgia around November or December, it was sold pretty fast the last few digits of vin were 002769. Please take car of my old car lol and if you want to get rid of it let me know! thanks.

good luck to all acura owners i'll be back in 2 years.

I love my TL. The subies look pretty good. I saw a R version. The dual coloured rims look like the diamond cut rims too. Thanks for the feedback. It made me chuckle a bit.

Everyone has at least one car that they later regret selling, most have several. I still check out every white 528 just to see if it was the one that got away.
Make the best of the Subaru and remember, it is better to have loved and lost...

Probably looking at 5 grand swing to trade your auto for a comparable Manual.
I would make an offer on this one as for some reason they cant unload it.
Crappy pics dont help, but if its a 2014 how much could be wrong with it ?
Its been on Auto trader for months. I bet they would deal on it.

The grass is never greener - I'm not gonna say the 4G SH-AWD is the greatest DD ever, but you're gonna have to shell out a lot more coin to do noticeably better

The 4G-especially the SH-AWD especially after the 2012 MMC is a very under-appreciated and underrated car. I have a 2012 and smile every day I drive it.

fWIW, I recently downsized from a mega cruiser BMW 750 LI to a 2012 TL AWD.

I loved the BMW but it caused me huge dissapointment with reliability and cost.

I can tell you that my black/umber sexy TL is now delivering tons of driving pleasure, and I am not looking back......I really like my decision to buy this little screamer.....

I love reading posts like Ephi's they reaffirm that we made the right decision with our purchase. I've never owned a BMW, but have been tempted many times to purchase a e92 and don't because of the horror stories I've heard about German reliability. Ephi as a past owner and possible past forum member on BMW forums is your case isolated or it's a common occurrence?

Trying to decide between a 2012 TL-tech SH-AWD and a 2013 TL-tech FWD. Similar miles and similar price.

Sounds like you would vote for the 2012 TL SH-AWD?

I just got my first Acura - a 2012 TL SH-AWD 6MT - a couple weeks ago. Holy cow what an amazing car. It was a lease return, too. OP can rest assured that the quality of these cars would inspire anyone to take great care of them

I've had my 2012 UA9 SH-AWD 6MT since new. It's been my DD for the last four years. Number 0657, I bought it new Memorial Day 2011. i traded in my 2004 TL Base 6MT and 2008 RDX for it. Still my DD and looks like its going to be a keeper since it seems Acura won't be making any more MTs.

My brother rides harleys, religously, past 30 years
I took him for a spin in my '13 SH AWD Tech (auto) and had him begging for mercy on a couple of interstate cloverleafs (safest place to open up on a curve).

I mildly regret not opting for the MT, but I was in LOVE with the black/ umber combo which was only available on the AT. (Why Acura why?)

^^ Good point about the highway cloverleafs. One mag that tested the SH-AWD TL a couple of years ago said "this car will corner so hard it will drain the blood from your head." He he.

There are few, if any, options as good as the TL SH-AWD in the price range. In considering other options, I drove a 335i M-sport and came away unimpressed. Sure, it's a beautiful car with great technology and decent dynamics, but it's not meaningfully better than the sporting TL. The TLX is unfortunately not on the list for me either since it does not offer the 6MT yet. Hopefully, Acura gets wise and builds a more sporting version. That will bring me back to the brand.

In the end, I'm going with a car that is ~50% more expensive (comparing sticker to sticker) to get something that is more impressive from a driving dynamics perspective, but is arguably not as good a car all around. I'll especially miss the stereo, which is one of the best in the business.

Your car is beautiful, 91lgndsdn! Can we get a shot from the side? I wish a darker color had been available when I bought mine. I ended up loving my white one, but the darker shades suit the car well.

What's wrong with the new Subaru, and what makes the Acura better, if at all? Are you comparing a V6 Acura to the H4 Subaru?

I used to have an 2005 Outback XT, which was a decent car. Tiny undersized brakes that smoked coming back down a mountain pass, and springs and shocks and went completely floppy and floaty after 30k miles, as well as an engine that lost compression at 60k miles (which was why I traded in the car). Not to mention an automatic climate control system that blows in hot air even at the coldest setting, when the AC button was manually toggled off. However, i would probably buy another Subaru (H6) if I needed do-everthing no frills transportation.

I wouldnt touch any turbo engine with a 10 foot pole though. The important thing to understand is that when you buy a Nissan or Subaru, you are not buying cars that gave the Japanese auto industry the reputation for bullet proof reliability (which was gained by Toyota and Honda). I would place Subarus and Nissans at about the same level as Fords and Chevys, which are great bangs for the buck (due to not being sble to charge a premium for reputation, which is not so different from Acura).

The tl is a beautiful car. Esp with the 6 speed manual it's a hidden gem that doesn't get much respect

I don't know when the front beak got super ugly, but the 2012 pictures above is gorgeous

I have had few subarus in my day (outback , justy, brat) and a legacy might compare with my lowly tsx but it doesn't compare with the tl

The tl is in a different league imho

2009 when the 4G was first introduced was the first sign of the ugly beak.
However, I think all the 4G's look good to me. I actually LIKE the beak from 2009, I hated it at first but I love it now. A pre-mmc 4G was driving behind me the other day and I was like wow, that grill looks badass. I think so many cars have big grills now its not such a big deal. Perhaps it was just ahead of its time. I think the 4G TL looks awkward in certain pictures sometimes but when I see any of them on the street I'm just like WOW that is a really cool looking car, different than anything else on the road. Unlike the 5G TLX which IMO looks like 2 or 3 other sedans.

I predicted long time ago that the 2009-2011 MY of the 4G TL was going to be appreciated with time, eventually...its was too far ahead of its time...and it's happening, quite few people changing their opinions on it...heard of even quite few die hard "I never going to buy a that ugly duck" 3G guys looking for them....too bad Acura management, sadly as usual, chickened out.

There are exactly none offering the whole 4G enchilada (size, power, handling, sporty feeling) in that price range...zilch, nada....nowadays you need to spend 60K and north to get something comparable or better

I think the 3G TL was such a unanimous home run for Acura and all the 3G fans that when it came time to release the 4G anything other than a slightly modified 3G TL was bound to not do as well.
For its time, I don't think the 4G was nearly as sharp looking as the 3G was when it came out, however as time has gone on, the 4G has gotten better looking(bigger cars and bigger grills have become more acceptable ) and the 3G looks dated (which is understandable due to its age).
Sadly what a lot of 3G guys miss is that the 4G (looks aside as thats subjective) is on a whole other level as far as an overall automobile.
It's not just a little better, its a LOT better.

May I ask what you don't like about the Subaru?
Before I got my 2012 last June, I was tempted to wait till September to get the 2015 Legacy or Outback.
I don't exactly regret not waiting but at the same time can't help but wonder how much money I could have been saving on gas.

I almost bought an '08 TLS because I initially disliked the look of the 4G. I drove a few and liked them a lot, but just couldn't find the right deal on the right car. So I sat out awhile. After reading some positive reviews of the 4G/6MT, I drove one and was instantly sold. I agree the 4G is on another level in terms of quality of construction, amenities and particularly driving dynamics. I even came to appreciate (more in passing years) the 4G's styling. It is a shame that some drivers passed on such a superb car because they didn't appreciate the styling, but that's why there are so many different options out there - everyone values different things in selecting cars, particularly at the over 40K price point (although I paid less than that for mine new - another reason I liked it so much).

Ha! JM2010 must've jumped on the incentives Acura had going since the TL's were selling much slower than the previous 3G's. If I recall correctly, got mine a grand under 40k drive out. Tax in TX on new vehicles is 6.25%

I admit that I did (and still do) love the styling of the 3G, but I now look on the 3G TL the same way I do a vintage 1990 Civic Si, 1994 Integra GS-R, or a 1997 Prelude (or an old arcade games like, for example, Donkey Kong): sentimentally quaint memories, but thoroughly uncompetitive if placed next to a more modern version of the same thing. Sometimes, it's better to let fond memories be memories and not ruin them by being too scientific.

As a car and judged on merit alone, the 4G and TLX are completely superior to the 3G in almost all ways. I have a hard time imagining that anyone with the financial means would consciously choose a used 3G over the later models.

I got the 2015 premium legacy with nav/sunroof for 26k out the door with outside dimming mirrors inside mirror w/ homelink & body side moldings.

Its a 185 HP 0-60 in 10 seconds with this horrible transmission, the road noise is unbelievable, the navigation touch screen is horrible and so many steps to just change a radio station. Headlights are also garbage. Bunch of other things I cant stand like doors dont lock after driving, no memory seats, cup holders SUCK, AC and heat make car idle high.

You can get the limited or v-6 legacy, and only the v6 has HIDS while both have leather with these options you are up in the 29-36k area for price. I would highly advise against buying a Subaru if you are coming from an Acura.

It was $38,100 before tax, tags and license. Remember what things were like in 2010 - stock market on its back, 8%+ unemployment, luxury car (and all cars for that matter) sales were terrible. So it was a question of right time/right place.

For that price, the 6MT SH-AWD is a hell of a value. Same is true even at 5K more.
