Mileaage at first oil change?
I have about 4200 miles (95% highway) with 60% oil life left. Assuming that oil life is linear and that my current conditions continue, I'm looking at 10,500 miles at my first oil change!!!
That is incredibly high mileage for any oil change - I'm old school. Should I bring it in sooner? I have read about the pistons wearing in and other parts too but 10k on a single oil change??? Wow!!!!
What was your mileage at first oil change, if you still remember?

Same question here - I am in Toronto (Canada) and at about 5000KM, but my Oil Life shows 50%, at that rate I will be doing a oil change around 10,000KM which to me is EXTREMELY high?
Should I follow the computer or go ahead and get this done?

I'm only at 1500 miles and have yet to do a oil change, but I would follow the manual's instructions, which is to wait for the computer's prompt.
You guys are getting great oil life. I'm at 1500 miles with 80% oil life (mixed city/highway).

I wonder if assuming linear for the oil life is anything like assuming linear for the RANGE readout. Based on my 39 day ownership, I know better to make that assumption. However, you're oil life seems to be running approximately the same as mine ... drops 10% with roughly 1,000 miles travelled. I changed the oil in my CL-S at the factory recommended 7,500 miles interval throughout the life of the car, and that life was 221,108 and counting. If mine continues to respond like yours is, I figure the first 15% oil life warning will come on somewhere around the 8,000 mile mark. Based on previous ownership experiences with the Acura, I'm not worried. Worked out roughly the same way with my '98 M3.

If anything goes wrong they can't really blame me for not following directions!

What filters are the new Acura cars running? My cars require service 1 time per year, once every 13,000 miles for the Benz and once every 15,000 for the BMW. This is with fleece filters, though. I always changed the oil in my old TL at the 7500 mile interval, as well.

Don't worry about the mileage. Even if you go over 10k in between oil changes, it should be no problem. I'd say it's a good idea to change your oil annually, at least, however.
But, if you change your oil before the MID is at at least 15%, don't reset it. Let it run it's course, so that your other service intervals don't get interrupted from their scheduled cycles.
Also, when the MID hits 15% or lower, I'd change my oil again, just to stay on schedule.

I did my first oil change at shortly after hitting 5000 miles.
With metal shavings from engine break-in, I felt that was long enough. MID showed 50% at that point.
Now I will probably follow the MID and I'm using fully synthetic oil.

I have 4600 miles and I just got the 15% light. I do a lot of city driven. Royal Purple will be going in this Tuesday. Will make me feel a lot better with I stomp on it to hear my short ram -

i went 7500 miles before 15%. It didn't seem to be linear. The first 3000 seemed to be linear but after that it went down. After 3000 miles i should have been able to make it over 10000, but i didn't make it, and the last 2500 miles were all highway, i was on a road trip.

Interesting on the non-linear towards the end part. I will keep monitoring as my "commute" is very predictable every week. I go to a different state to work.

I make a 135 mile round trip each day for work, so I'll also be able to determine the consistency of the oil life readout relatively quickly ... had 3505 miles on the clock when I filled the tank last Thursday ... day 37 of ownership. Again, if the RANGE in any indicator, I'm not expecting linearity throughout.

I'm at 15% @ 4200. I'll drive down to 0% so my guess is I'll be at Just over 5000 when I go for service. I usually drive until negative mileage is displayed but since its the first oil change and i don't know if this MM does it I'll abide by the "rules".

I changed the oil at 6200 miles with 20% left because it had been a year since I got the car.

Do you do that drive everyday? Sounds brutal...

Sad to say, but yes. Benefits of living in PA and working in MD is more of my money stays in my pockets and not to the MD piggy-back taxation system. Also, all mileage is highway miles, so no wear and tear on the car (which is why I only reluctantly got rid of my '03 Cl-S with a mear 221,108 miles on the clock after 7 years). Downside is that I get to drive more new cars than if I lived in MD. Hmmmm ... maybe not a downside afterall.

After a grand total of 1 oil change, I've found the oil life indicator to actually be quite linear. My readings recorded at gas fill up:
80% - 3183 km
70% - 5179
60% - 6438
50% - 8169
40% - 9853
30% - 11774
20% - 13118
15% - 13840
10% - 14648
Plotted out you can draw a straight line right through.
70% - 5179
60% - 6438
50% - 8169
40% - 9853
30% - 11774
20% - 13118
15% - 13840
10% - 14648

I had my A1 done today, (minus the 1, going to winter tires, another story) 13522kms. I gotta admit i was getting nervous, but the dealer advised to wait until the car said to do the service.
I do mostly highway driving, 60km round trip daily with cruise control between 110 and 90 km/h.

From what I have read on the web(which is not always correct)on various honda forums, a lot of people believe that the oil life monitor actually does work and in reality is on the consevative side. Not my experience but just spewing what I have read.

I just passed 6,000 miles and it clicked over to 40% left. I believe it works, but is also limited to 10% every 1,000 miles. End result being a maximum of 10,000 miles/change -- or less if driving conditions / speed / rpms etc warrant it. Probably linear if you are governed by the first, and not if it's according to driving.

As for 15000km oils changes - About three times what I'm used to changing at. Guess I'll give it a try - will know in a few years and a couple hundred k's how it's worked out!

Yes, follow the calculator but we're all wondering if the calculator is smart, and thus what logic it uses, or it's just dumb and bases its calculation on just mileage alone.
Nah, we're not anal.

This morning mine dropped from 70% to 60%. The mileage read 3898 ... roughly every 975 miles. We'll see what the mileage reads in when it drops to 50% in about two weeks.

A-1-6 service
I received my first automated message for service after 8500 miles: A16 service, which is oil change, tire rotation, and rear differential fluid change (SH-AWD). My dealer quoted me $204.00 for this service. Of note, I drive long distances on highways only, no traffic.
I think this is a very steep charge for my first TL's service, and I will ask an independent mechanic for a quote. I will, however, provide him with Mobil 15-20W oil, and the Acura Z1 ATF (which is the fluid used for the rear differential).

Whoa! Rear differential fluid change at (roughly) 10k miles? Why is that? My wife's Highlander is at 40k and no rear differential fluid change yet!
BTW, in the upper 4000 and my 60% went to 50%. Looks like linear to 10k.

For what it's worth?... Was accustomed to the 3k mile/3 mo. rule for oil change. My VA Acura dealer was stalwart; on my paying attention to the TL Maintenance Minder. After, 7200 miles and 10% Oil Life on the computer dash. We completed our first A1-service. Acura Service Advisor told us that we were on-track. Also, had a bad speaker replaced in front passenger door by dealer. Hope this helps?

Good to know the MM still works as it should...unlike the nav system's destination list. I hit 10% today with just over 4400 so it look's like I'll be due in mid/late January which is in line with the 6-7 month interval I've become accustomed to since the MM system rolled out.

My C-class has 1 year or 13,000 mile intervals and my 135 has 1 year or (adjusted to driving conditions) 14,000-16,000 intervals. But they hold a large quantity of fully synthetic oil and use special fleece filters. This is why their oil changes are such extended drains. I just thought I'd clarify that.
