hi all,
it's been a while but i may be passing on my '00 TL and looking at an '09 TL. while this new shape had to really grow on me i see potential especially after looking at pics with aftermarket parts, rims and kits. my question is about the front "bumper". i live in NYC and concerned about someone parallel parking and hitting it and the alignment of the hood/bumper getting out of place. has anyone had this issue or is this something that may only happen if hit over 25 mph? thanks.

 

Good luck my friend. I go to NY alot and my nephew lived in the Bronx and now he's living in Brooklyn and I've seen the bumpers on Mercedes and BMW's and it ain't pretty. It is what it is. Pass at your own risk I say!

 

Well think about it like this, no matter what you do if it is NY city streets it's going to get hit,dent,scratched. The only thing that may help is bumper guards. While they are on your ok when they are off it's going to get damaged. This winter has been tough on my TL. I park in a lot and it's safe while it's there but it's been dent and hit in the rear. The out of pocket to fix the TL will cost me $1,200.

thanks for the input guys, i do have a driveway at home and work in connecticut (parking lot), my only real concern is the impact and being that the front has sort of a pointed front. the grazes and dents are understandable and yes this winter has been brutal! but i am interested (but not finding out myself) if anyone has hit or been hit head on maybe by a car backing up into them or someone not stopping in time and hitting someone and the alignment of the hood/bumper getting out of alignment. thanks again.

 

I travel into the Bronx for work and on occasion Manhattan for fun, I will not go anywhere that doesnt have its own lot, or an indoor lot close by...the $25-50 to park is well worth not dealing with the headaches. So far my only issue with the 09 bumper is that its too low, those damn concrete stops scratch the hell out of my bumper. Got it repainted from Acura once for ~$200, and i have a new scratch on it now...
