Make under dash lights brighter
first I used 1/8" ...then 60 DEG counter sink...to open it up to around 0.340" with taper edge around the LED. It is easier to use small drill first and then counter sink to control the size of the hole....

Anyone try this with a 2014 TL Yet? I looked under the dash and my caps are clear! However i do not think the light is as bright as what you guys are showing?
Anyone else with a 14' have clear caps and do the mod?

mine were black, but when light is on you can see blue but barely at night.
Wow, what a nice easy mod. Thanks OP. I was surprised that the brightness of the LED's goes up and down with the dash lights when adjusting their brightness. So if they're a little too bright for your taste, you can dim them....as long as you don't mind your dash lights being dimmed too.
A drill press makes this even easier BTW. I knew I'd have another use for it after buying it for my sons' Pinewood Derby Scout cars.

I want more light so is there anyway to swap this out and put some bright LED in there?

Done that and still not bright enough for me. I want more light...

After putting this mod off for a while due to lack of time, I decided to bring my cordless drill to work with me today. I ended up doing this mod during my lunch break. Wow, literally takes 5 minutes to do. HAHA. Thanks!
Dear Acura,
WHY would you put a BLACK PLASTIC cover over lights?
Easy mod, I don't know how many times I've looked at my wife's Sportwagon and thought I wish I had those footwell lights.. now I do!!
Takes about 30 to 45min tops to do this and well worth the time and effort. Start with a small bit and work your way up to the size you want.
Thanks to OP for this insight!!

Def doing this mod this weekend. Coming from a IS350 I grew to love the footwell lights and how they dimmed down when shifted to D and dimmed up to full brightness when in P. Even at lowest was still bright but not overpowering and it was white.
I have a 6MT... would it get brighter with the parking brake on?
just finished this - indeed takes like 10 mins.
I went up to 1/8" holes. Will see how I like it and decide if I want to go any bigger.
My only regret - wish I made the hole higher up on the cover so that the blue light would shine squarely on the TL logo on the floor mats. It's off by the smallest margin haha. Oh well.

Holy cow, took the covers off on both sides in less than five minutes. Thanks OP. Looks not too overpowering at night, too.
I looked at my wife's MDX and it's clear on her ride so no need to remove any covers.

Are the covers the same, only clear? If so, I'd almost be inclined to order up some MDX ones and swap out.
Random bump, I checked and my '13 has the black plastic covers as well. Has anyone verified/purchased/installed these clear versions? I'd rather not drill if I can.
It appears 34760-TY2-A11 is the part number for the RLX

sorry to rehash, so the other option to drilling would be just to take the caps off? and then put everything back together? sorry, new at this.
and being at work, none of the pictures are working for me

Thanks to OP too for the info!
So, I'm going to bite the bullet and buy two different Amber ones - the ones for the 2013 Acura TSX (34760-TL0-G11) and the ones for the RLX (34760-TY2-A11) to see if either one of the clear covers are direct swap for us.
Before and after pic, or rather after and before... of "let there be light"

So now you can see at night how dirty your mats are
edit: I noticed there is a resistor in there. Didn't calc the value but perhaps if removed it will be brighter... or burn it - lol. So, I didn't mess with it.
edit2: on the Accord, in Canada, they charge $218.73 extra for that illumination option! Yep, to plug in a $2 led - lol - since the wiring is already part of the harness!!! Crazy!
