Looking to Purchase a 2011/2012 6SPD. What should I look for during a test drive?

Hi. I'm sure this question has been asked and answered before, but I couldn't find the information I need. Would someone tell me what commons problems/issues to look for when purchasing and test driving this generation TL? I will be looking at a manual transmission model, 2011 or newer. Thank you!

Thank you. Are there recurring/prevalent issues that plague this generation TL? The link is a useful starting point, but the myriad of individual complaints is a bit much to take into consideration during a test drive.

Also, would there by any way to determine (prior to purchase) if the vehicle burns excessive oil, assuming nothing of the sort is mentioned in the car fax report....

Ain't no way to determine outside of a oil leak. What to look for... How the clutch feels and if there is any noise. Also the Drive shaft when your driving below or about 45mph listen for a whistle like sound almost like a roller bearing with no oil. The Oil and the Drive shaft are the main driving factors for the AWD 6-Speed. Other than that pretty solid.

I would try to go into "messages" section to see history with "low oil" or something like that. If it's been deleted manually, try to go into dash computer by pressing menu + info + navi together (correct me if i'm wrong with buttons combination), so some record with 'low oil' should be there.

As you know the reliability of the same model of vehicles will vary, and all vehicles regardless of brand will have some type of issue. If you can review the service records of a car you like that would be a big help for you in making your decision. Because overall the 4G's are very dependable, and will run a long time if properly maintained.

Good Luck with your search.

If you determine any notchi-ness shifting from 2nd to 3rd, know that GM synchromesh fixes it. Had that on all of my TL's, and fixed it on all of them.
