Long Road Trip with NEW 2010 SH-AWD 6-Speed Review

Well, I have posted before comparing the 4g to the 3g, and after having just having a round trip from NY to Key West, FL figured I would post my impressions of the 3500 mile round trip. To save me typing all of this is IMO.

First, seats are comfortable, I'm 6'1, but after a few hours I found it helpful to move the seat back once on the highway. Let my legs spread out more and took some pressure off my legs.

Fuel economy was very good considering the average speeds we traveled. In general I was able to get 26-27 mpg while averaging 60-70. I was able to get 25-26 mpg while averaging 65-75, and I was able to get 24.8 mpg, while averaging 78 mph for a very long stretch of travel.

Now I do have a KN Air filter in the car, but still original oil, so my experience is using Mobile 0-20 full Synthetic yields almost another 1 mpg.

My old 3g I was able to get 27-28 mpg average running at 80 mpg with KN and 0-20 oil. So it doesn't look like too much is lost gas wise for the added performance.

The main selling point of this car for me, was the AWD, and highway performance. I can tell you that while driving at 70+ mph I never once needed to downshift to quickly get by troublesome cars on the road. There was more than enough available HP to quickly cut through traffic. So if your a driver that pays attention to traffic flows, and doesn't get caught by surprise much, you'll be very pleased with the available HP without even having to down shift.

The car is crazy smooth, cruising at 80 felt like you were standing still. That can be bad because even at 110, it still felt very smooth.

I still need to get use to the Navi, its commands, etc. Hard to do while driving.

Overall very happy, and oh, BTW on ramps a LOTS of FUN

Wow, that was a long trip you had.
I'm sure it was very enjoyable with the smooth ride and the awesome sound system.
For me, the most attractive feature of the car was the interior/audio and the AWD w/ 6spd manual.
Didn't get a chance to test drive it on the highway, so I'm not sure the 3.7L V6 would act once it starts to stretch its legs.
Thanks for the review. Enjoy!

I LIVE in my car (about 25-30k a year) and the 4G is the most comfortable car of all the Acuras me or my g/f have had...

Glad to see you are enjoying it!!

Long Trip

I just drove 3000 km with a 2010 TL SH-AWD w/auto. I had 1 2007 TL Type-S 6MT before. I took the automatic because my wife prefer the automatic transmission. I was very pleased with the car, it handles very well on the highway and has more than enough power. The sound system is fantastic and you can put a lot of music on an USB key. The car is also quiet and the seats are great.
So far, I have no complaints although I still miss my manual transmission. The navi is much better than on the other car.
