Phishing

PsychDoc;

I'd be skeptical about this; 1st I'd check to see where the sender's email address originates from. if it's not a legit Acura address............................
2nd, if you want to be sure, call Acura client services in California, to verify the authenticity

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up. I just spoke to Acura in CA (the real ones...lol) and they have no record of this website or any survey that they have authorized or contracted out for so it looks like my original suspicion is correct. It'a a phishing expedition.

So to all my fellow AcuraZine pals, don't get conned by this if you get an email.

The email address they're using is: support@ownerspanel.com

I got this too. Typically, phishing emails are going for bank or paypal accounts and other sensitive information. What is to be gained by them in this case?

My guess: First step in a scam to get personal info off you. Social engineering (an information security term) off this sort is becoming increasingly common unfortunately.

I also got these emails along with a letter. It seems somebody has sold my
information. Im suspecting Acura or Farmers insurance. Or maybe these
companies have been hacked.

here's the website:

http://ownerspanel.com/Acura/

I wouldn't respond to the email. Look at the FAQs on the website. If you're scared, buy a dog. j/k

If you have any doubts about the legitimacy, contact ACS.

Phishing expeditions generally send a mass email to millions of people, and out of those millions, a certain percentage will actually own an Acura, and will seem legit to them. To the others, they will know it's bogus, but the phisher doesn't really care about them anyway =)

Well, I spoke to ACS today and they tell me that http://www.ownerspanel.com/Acura/ is a valid Acura website.
The rep. didn't know the company that sent the email but surmised that it's a company hired by Acura. If you go to the above website and remove /Acura/ it takes you to the Honda/Acura owners panel.
So...apparently it's a valid research company working for Honda/Acura.

I've been a member of that panel for about 3 years. They periodically send out surveys. Occasionally they give you a peek of future products/technologies under consideration which is kinda cool, but ask that you don't discuss them.
