LED License plate light

Hey all!

I am wondering which LED license plate bulbs you guys are running? I know the bulb type is 168, but on my last car I kept buying bulbs that were too long and wouldn't fit into the housing properly.

If anyone has a direct link to the bulb where they bought it from (Vleds etc.), that would really help!

Thanks!

Link and night picture would be legit. Can't go wrong with Vleds. Local for me too. I got a pair of their cheapest ones for free at a car show and they've been going strong for 3 years with no flickering or going out. Bought to take them out of my TSX and install them in the TL.

Wow 3 years, I bought some cheap ones for my old car from some local mall and it lasted about 8 months lol.

@VanyDotK Those ones you linked to, do you happen to have a night shot of how they look? Cant decide between 5K or 6K

Yeah I bought a cheap set and it lasted a month on 1 side and the other still worked. Piled them out for the doors since I got 3 in the set. I have 5k on my TSX and they are nice and bright. I had 6k and they're nice and blue but I like to show off the plate since mine was customized.

Another good site for quality lighting is ijdmtoy.com

@Jackieee_TL Ohh that looks nice, those fit into the housing perfectly without modification? I know those are longer than the stock 168 bulb

Plug and play - might need to flip em depending on the polarity, just test the bulbs before putting the plastic lenses back on.

My only issue was that those clear plastic lenses that cover the bulb sockets are a bitch to put back in if you have big hands, my little sister ended up doing it since she had finger nails haha.

These wouldn't work for the under-door lights (the ones that illuminate the ground when you get out of the car) as well would they?

I believe for under the door, you need flank bulbs like these :

do you happen to know if these can also be used for the front headlight sidemarkers? I had my covers taken out so i have that ugly halogen bulb exposed which i wanna replace with an amber or white led.

any suggestions?

yes they will - both are a 168 bulb

I actually had the exact same situation as you for a bit after i had my reflectors taken out, soooo ugly lol

keep in mind that once you swap in a 6k led on the sidemarker, it won't actually match your HID lowbeams...I've since swapped those out for 6k HIDs so it looks uniform

best of luck

Should be a different bulb. I got these from iJDM. Again, I'll get some pics up soon. They're pretty blue...bluer than I was expecting, but for under the door, I don't mind it at all. The nice thing was it plugged right into the bulb-holder; I've seen other threads where part of the retainer had to be bent or ground away, but these bulbs fit right in.

As of now, I've replaced the licence plate lights, the trunk light, the courtesy (under door) lights, and the vanities. All led's from iJDM, and all easy swaps.

EDIT: now that I look at my links, I realize that they are essentially the same bulbs (though I got 2 in white, and 2 in blue)...they just list them twice within the site.

How the heck did you get your reflectors next to the license plate to light up and what did you do.

so this same bulb can be used to replace both the license plate light AND under door courtesy lights?

Summary:
these apparently are all the same bulbs... many differences though in price. Any differences in functionality? One is apparently "error free". Anyone get any errors with the others?

License plate LEDs:
http://store.ijdmtoy.com/Mercedes-Error-Free-W5W-LED-Parking-Light-Bulbs-p/10-036.htm $13.99
http://www.vleds.com/shop-bulb-numbers/194-168-158-led/6-5k.html $20
http://store.ijdmtoy.com/2825-168-194-LED-Bulbs-License-Plate-Lights-p/10-006-acura.htm $10.99

Under door:
http://www.vleds.com/5k-4-hpf.html $16
http://www.vleds.com/shop-bulb-numbers/194-168-158-led/5k-4-hpf.html $16/pair
http://store.ijdmtoy.com/168-194-2825-LED-Bulbs-For-License-Plate-Lights-p/10-006.htm $10.99

Sylvania 168/194 from hardware store $12.99

Yes they are the same bulb for license plate lights and courtesy door lights. My brother recently upgraded to LED's for his license plate on his 2013 Fit after seeing mine in the TL. I made him get the double polarity from Vleds. They are super bright and you can install them in any direction. Worth the $16. Plus they are local for us so shipping was 1-2 days max.

I ended up going with these:
http://store.ijdmtoy.com/2825-168-194-LED-Bulbs-License-Plate-Lights-p/10-006-acura.htm $10.99

Bought 2 pairs: 2 for license plate, 1 for each courtesy/under-door light.

I decided on them because
A) specifically says for Acura
B) good price (and cheaper shipping)
C) it's 360 degrees (other ones had 4 or 6 LED's, but not necessarily multidirectional).

I haven't taken pics of mine yet...been suffering with a cold, and just want to drop on the couch when I get home. I'll aim to post something within the next day or so.

Some have used a "flank" style bulb for the courtesy light, with all the leds on one side (presumably pointing down). This wasn't an issue for me, as I had every intention of experimenting with a strip of tinfoil on the backside of the bulb housing, with the intention of directing more light out the lens. Once I got in there, though, I realized that my plan wouldn't have worked, as the tinfoil would likely short out the connections. There's probably a way to do it (silver paint or tape?), but frankly, there's enough light with the setup I have now.

One concern I had with the flank style bulbs was that if the polarity is wrong on one of these leds, the bulb doesn't light, so you have to flip it around. I don't know if this has caused a problem for anyone using the bulbs for their courtesy lights.

Is this a big deal? Plug it in, try it, flip it if necessary? Or am I missing something?

If it's a 360, like what I have (and what you've ordered), then no problem. But if it's a flank, and all the leds are on one side, hopefully that's the side pointing down. That's all I meant.

Just finished installing these license plate bulbs - they look pretty nice from what I can see (indoor garage). I'll take a pic when it's darker. Only took some 10 minutes (installed BOTH with the polarity flipped first and was scratching my head as to why they weren't working...)

Next I need to figure out how to install these bulbs as the under-door puddle lights. Couldn't figure out how to take the damn door panels off.

the light cover comes off, just be careful. you dont need to take the panel off the door. just so you know, replacing those lights can be a pain in the ass. just have patience or find someone with small hands to do it fr you.

I knew that was going too smoothly.
seems like one of the 4 bulbs is defective... it's very dim compared to the other 3. I'm assuming it's defective and I need to contact iJDM... but before I do that I should probably test one of the other 4 functional bulbs in the same driver side door which is lighting it up extremely dim (cant even tell it's on).
