Lease return damage over $500 for single event

Hi everyone, just returned my TL a few weeks ago. Got hit with the windshield, the cost was $540. Acura said I can't pay the difference($500-$540), i'm on the hook for the whole $540. They did split the cost with me, which was nice but I could have installed a windshield for like $150 by hunts point.

Has anyone gone through a similar situation?

Didn't you have an inspection done prior to the actual return?

Seems unfair doesn't it? They want you to return a used car that looks like a new car! Another reason I don't lease. And another reason to dislike car dealers.

Yes, but I assumed I would only pay the $40 or Acura would waive it.

lol let's slow down here. It was my fault for not checking over the contract to see what was due over $500 also my salesman was great this has nothing to do with the dealer but only Acura financial services.

Were you taking another lease with Acura?
If so, I am pretty sure you can work something out.

If not, it sucks because you could gone aftermarket and it would have been a lot cheaper. But once it goes thru Acura, I believe they will charge you OEM prices.

^^ What he said^^.

Only thing is if you leased another Acura you would have had much better leverage negotiating this before signing the paperwork on a new purchase or lease.

They are splitting the bill with me so it'll be $220

Not leasing another Acura at this time. Thankfully I don't have to pay the full amount only half of it.

If you're getting another car, no matter the brand just trade it in. Then you don't deal with any of this nonsense. You have a payoff amount like any financed car. I've never "turned in" a leased vehicle.

Think what you're saying is the trade-in value of the car is always greater than the residual value of the vehicle at the end of the lease. This is why dealers love leases.
