L-005: Trunk Liner / Cargo Net Install - AWD

The AWD cars have a nice big hump in the back, causing the factory trunk liner to not fit properly. Honda/Acura seems to have planned for this by leaving a seam to cut down. They also left nice markers where the tie-down anchors are, allowing you to use the cargo net with the trunk liner.

My 03 CL Type S 6M was the first car I did the trunkliner thing on, and I'll get them in every vehicle from now on. The trunk was like the day it was made when I sold the car last week - and the liner only showing some signs or normal wear.

I picked up the trunk liner on ebay for $55 shipped (not bad really). I used the cargo net from one of my CL's or my wife's old TL, and did not buy a new one. I can't imagine they've changed much.

The Trunk Liner - fresh out of the package:

Trunk - all vacuumed out, armor all properly applied to all plastic areas and seals - and clean. Start clean - work clean - stay clean - finish clean.

Note the round notches for the passthrough to the cargo hooks.

I also took an LED interior light that I had purchased for the CL dome light, and it happens to be what Acura is using in the trunk. Personally, I think the trunk light is wayyyyy to dim from the factory, so I removed the cover, removed the bulb, inserted the led leads into the socket, and secured this one with the accompanying 2-way tape. You never see the light itself - but boy, what a difference it makes with illumination!

This is in a completely dark garage:

Anyway - back to the trunk liner.

I took a fresh razor blade, and cut a small + in the center of each of the circles, to allow the cargo net anchors to be accessed through the liner.

There is a very clear seam between the front and rear sections of the trunk liner. For the AWD, you need to cut this front piece off to fit. The FWD folks, can leave it be.

Put the liner in now, and thread the cargo net through to the anchors, on one side, then on the other.

With the top section cut off, it leaves the "hump" relatively unprotected. I trimmed around to get just the flooring of the front section, and have been playing around with 2-way tape and trimming to see what works out. It may be something like this - then again I may just go get a long all weather type floormat and trim to fit:

There's really no time in putting this in, and it's easy enough anyone can do it. I've found it helps preserve retail value, and certainly helps keep the car nice and clean.

I followed someone's recomendation and unscrewed the plastic knobs, slid the screw posts through the holes in the trunk liner, and then screwed them back in over top. Now you have access to the knobs all the time and it looks very clean.

I also laid the trunk mat on top and then screwed those plastic knobs through the mat itself. This way, the mat stays put in the car. Without doing it this way, the trunk mat slides around a little bit.

I have an SH-AWD version and did not cut off the top piece like the instructions said to do. I just left it hanging on top of the hump. Doesn't look too bad and gives me more protective coverage.

Psuedo, I too really like my trunk liner. I have also unscrewed my plastic knobs and put them back down on the top of the liner. It makes it easier to maneuver the cargo net.

Here's a little touch I did to my trunk liner with auto touch up paint....

In my last two TL's the Trunk Liner and Cargo Net (and Wheel Locks) were included - compliments of the dealership. I didn't even have to ask.

Edit: thanks for the pics and install info. Added to the 4G Garage - https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-2009-2014-123/4g-tl-garage-listing-topics-711436/
