Keeping the torque converter and transmission in check

I have both an 08 MDX with the 5 speed and a 12 TL with the 6 speed.
I love both the transmissions for different reasons but my main concern today is keeping these things problem free.

I don't have any shudder on either vehicles and both have been updated software wise.

Has as anyone ever seen an updated one have issues at some point way pst the update?

i change the transmission fluid every other oil change to ensure it stays clean.

Like me I said mine has been trouble free with 215k miles on the TL with original TC. The update was done at 180k miles with no symptoms and simple as a mandatory thing when brought to dealership.

Has anyone had an issue sometime after the update or has it patched the problem from every occurring for good?

some folks mentioned reduced MPG and higher RPM's when driving in certain conditions. As long as you keep up with the fluid changes it should last a while! With the 12 TL, you have an external filter that you can replace! I did mine with the timing belt service.

Interesting! I have never driven one before the update so I wouldn’t know how it felt. I just know it likes it when your predictable with the gas pedal lol.
My 12 also likes to shift into 3rd gear when accelerating very slowly

Ive had the update and STILL at push off lets say you want to pass a car taking off from red light entering freeway, it will take off then jerk while shifting to second. The 1-2nd gear shift is NEVER smooth for me. EVER.

I have never loved and hated a car so much at the same time....Ive had TWO transmissions installed by acura...so I dont think replacing it will fix. the technology is flawed apparently when paired with this engine.

Wow. Mine is on the original transmission, 180k kms on it now. It does take about a full second before it goes into reverse now too.

I have 211K on mine. No problems. ATF change every other oil change like you said.

Isn't the ATF change interval 60k miles? Are you being overly cautions due to Honda's automatic transmission history?

Sh awd or front wheel drive.
Cause the transfer case and rear differential all work directy with transmission as well

Yes and yes. If ATF were overly expensive or the job was difficult I might reconsider. But DW-1 isn't that much. Even then, I use Valvoline Maxlife which is cheaper - $18 a gallon at Walmart. So the cost and effort are negligible compared to the benefits of keeping the transmission humming for as long as possible.

FWD. So if there's something different with the shawdy, then I suppose that could change things. From what I've seen, a simple drain/refill of the ATF is the same as the FWD. Obviously you have the transfer case and differential to worry about as well.
