Interior dress-up?

I'm jumping the gun here since I don't even have the car yet but the interior looks like it needs a little something. The weird silvery swoopy pieces look okay I guess but the big black center console area just looks like it needs something. I liked the greyish burl that came on the older TL-S models and I was never a fan of carbon fiber. Brushed aluminum looks fairly classy though. I see that there are several aftermarket dash and interior dress-up kits out there. Has anyone here gone that route and any recommendations or just leave well enough alone.

Thanks,

Doug

Carbon fiber is definitely out of the picture. I never liked it when it came out and I think its really run its course. What does look decent is the brushed aluminum-type look that I think is used in the G37 coupe. But I will probably follow the advice and just leave it alone.

Everyone has their own taste and should mod their car to reflect their taste, having said that i have to agree with the other owners here, the interior looks refined and elegant enough as it is,i added the aluminum pedals which i feel compliments the aluminum looking trim around the dashboard.

It's so hard to find any aftermarket components that are up to the grade for the high quality interior. That lower center console, where it makes a 90 to meet the floor, is a good place for the phone mounts that strap to the metal trim. Get a classy piece to break up the monotony and something functional at that point?

Agrred. From past experience over time it doesn't stand up to the abuse. Ends up being more of a headache if it has to be removed later down the line. Leave well enough alone.

I got aftermarket wood or wood-looking dash pieces on three cars in the past. One was for a 1986 BMW 325 and it was just a couple of very small pieces that went around some buttons--looked okay. The next was for a 1990 Maxima that had at tall vertical very plain looking center console (kind of like the current Lexus ES but without any wood). In that case I ended up with a real wood panel (maybe from Madera) that attached with tiny screws and looked great and like it was OEM. The worst look was the so-called wood panel around the gauges that I got from Acura when I bought our 2000 TL. It matches the rest of the wood inside the car but definitely has a cheap plastic stick-on look.

The only reason I was thinking about something for the 2012 TL is that my wife was disappointed in the blandness of the interior (in her opinion) compared with her 2000. In fact, the first 2012 TL we test drove was the base model and she liked the couple of wood-looking pieces that are in the interior of the base but not the Tech and noticed that when we drove a Tech.

Doug, I did the Carbon Fiber interior kit and LOVE it! But I understand if Carbon Fiber is not your cup of tea.

There are many types of interior trim kits on the market. NYCDashes.com is a good place to start.
