Huge favor to ask for 5AT FWD owners out there....
Hello,
I have a huge favor to ask of the members out there that own the 5spd autos. I recently got a used TL and there is a little "issue" that im just starting to notice now. I am unsure if it is really an issue or just a characteristic of the car. Please help me put my mind at ease ! I dont want my wallet hurting if I go to the dealership !
What I am experiencing is the following;
when the car is going around 80 KPH ( 50 MPH ) the transmission shifts into 5th gear, but the RPM is really low at around 1300-1400 causing vibration/bogging due to no torque at such a low RPM. Of course normally accelerating you would never notice this issue- its only when you leave the car at this speed give or take 1-2 MPH.
Please see how your car is performing !
thanks SO much
Chris

Most likely you will have to take your car in to the dealer, this is common in the Awd Tl's but i have seen a few members say the have the same problem with the Fwd.It is related to a software update/torque converter issue.
You can probably call Acura Client Relations, they would know if there is any recall/updates for your vehicle, keep your Vin handy as they will ask for it.

I've not had this problem on my own 10 but another solution may be to reset the ECU to learn your particular driving habits. Could have something to do with the last owner's way of driving. I'm sure someone will chime in on how to do this or you can do a search on this forum. Sorry I can't remember. And if that doesn't work, then I'd take it back to the dealer.

I have not experienced this at all with my 2011.
Have the dealer check it out now, hopefully they will be able to fix it for you. If not, at least it will be documented that you experienced the problem and tried to have the dealer fix it.
Good Luck.

I have notice this on my 12 SH-AWD but it's very minute and my understanding was that it was to increase fuel efficiency. I see no other issues in regards to this although I have only had my car for 4 months now.
I will also add that this was also true on my old 05 TL. Had this car for 2 years with no issues before it was traded in.

Take it to the dealer and said u did research and this is a very common yet easy to repair by the dealer. They have to do it for free. Oh and dont forget to ask for a loaner car because it will take them days to do the software update and replace torge converter. Your welcome!

'10, none...'09 I did experience sort of a lag and vibration at first. After a trip or two to the dealership, nothing. The '10 still appears to be a bit more responsive.

Hey guys just an update on the situation.
It seems that the internet can be your best friend- or worst enemy in terms of information overload. I took the car in to Oakville Acura in Ontario ( awesome dealership so far ) and the shop foreman took it for a drive and we had a chat.
First off what I was experiencing is completely different than the torque converter issue of the AWD models. He said if the car was experiencing anything close to that it would be instantly noticeable without question. He said the AWD cars are almost bucking as the torque converter is locking/unlocking as its confused gear to stay in.
He said my car has zero issues and its the nature of the car. It is a locking torque converter and that 5th gear kicks and locks in at a lower RPM for gas mileage. Its normal to notice a bit of droning noise between the said RPM range 1350-1500 if im just being too pussy footed on the gas, or locked in cruise at that speed. Its just the gear is at the lowest possible engagement point which is set quite low to begin with for gas savings.
and a side note- as a passenger in my car during the test drive I didn't notice the issue nearly as much as the "feel" of the droning through the peddle makes it seem like a much bigger "issue'
hope this helps others
