How much should I pay for this trade?

Want to trade in my car for a manual.I got a 2010 TL SHAWD, automatic, no navi, 105,000 kms. A dealer has a 2010 TL SHAWD, manual, navi, 65,000 kms. How much more is his car worth than mine, and how much should I pay him to do the trade?

Do those publications differentiate between the same model with different transmissions?

No probably not. Look at the trade in value of your car in KBB.com, and the retail value of their car. Offer the difference - 1000. See what they say. Keep in mind, there car is rare and in demand and yours isn't.
Not all dealers know this though, use that to your advantage. See how long the car has been for sale, that will affect your deal.

It's definitely rare, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's in demand. I think on average this type of car in auto is more in demand. Granted the demographic on AZ likely goes against that trend but that represents a small sample size.

This is key and will give you a good idea of the demand. When I bought my car it had been on the lot for about six months. They still weren't willing to work with me much, and only offered to split the shipping cost (didn't budge on price).

Well to clarify, I say its in demand because the demand for it farrr exceeds the supply. This is why you had to pay someone to ship your car to you, as did I
Its also why most dealers who are wise charge a few thousand dollars premium for basically the same car in manual vs automatic. I think if you wanted an automatic you would have had no issue finding one close to your house as the market is flooded with them.

Read the question wrong, thought you wanted to find out the trade in value for just your car alone. My bad.

Depends on the person trading it in. I was able to get well above KBB value for my manual.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna offer them my car plus $2k and go from there. I'm not in a hurry to trade it in so if he doesn't want to give me a good deal I'll just walk away and wait for a better deal.By the way, do you know if the winter wheels I have for my 2010 5AT will fit a 6MT? They are 225-55/17. I know with the 3G the manual had bigger brakes so wheels that fit the 3G 5AT wouldn't necessarily fit the 6MT, is this a concern with the 4G too?

The A/T and M/T TL's have the same brake setup so your wheels will fit either car.

I think you're going to have to offer a lot more than $2k along with your trade-in though. You have to keep in mind that your car has over 60% more mileage on it and does not have the tech package. Converting everything to USD, the TL you want to trade for retails for $3100 more than your current car. You also have to keep in mind that, while you look at it as more of a swap, a car dealer looks at it as taking your car as a trade-in and selling you a used car. The difference widens by a lot more in that scenario wher. The difference between your trade-in value and the retail value of the car you're looking at is more like $7400. The car dealer is a business. They have to make money. The chances that they are going to give you full retail value for your vehicle and basically swap the cars straight across along with a couple thousand dollars are basically slim to none.

Dead on accurate Bdogg.
He will be getting probably the low end of trade in on his vehicle, and the dealer will want retail fro their car. 2K isn't going to do it.
But again, if the cars been sitting on the lot for 3 months thats a different story.
