Honda V6 versus Acura V6?

Question for you guys:
I have a base 2010 TL, 3.5L V6, 5 sp. auto.
The car is great and I intend to keep it.
But I'm also considering a (used) 2013-2016 Accord Coupe V6 manual 6 speed.
Is the engine in the Accord basically the same as the Acura engine? I think the V6 does not get VCM when it comes with the manual trans. HP rating for the Accord is 278 and torque is 252 lb.ft. which is almost identical to the TL (280/254). Anyone here have experience with the Accord Coupe? I know I can search the Honda board but there seems to be some good reliable reporters here.

2013-2016 6MT accord use the J35Y2 which has a 10.0:1 compression ratio vs the 4G TL using the J35Z6 with a 11.2:1 compression ratio.

The Accord engine is the newer "earth Dreams" engine vs our non-earth-dreams one so the Y2 does have some more tech advances but it DOES NOT HAVE Direct Injection like the other Earth Dreams engines.

Accord coupe is a nice car, I'd opt for the Touring Model with the LED headlamps if possible!

Thank you.
I would not buy a 4 cyl. or a CVT equipped car.
I'm going to test drive the 6 speed manual V6 which only come with all the bells and whistles in the EX/L Touring version.

your going to love it. only downside with it having soo much power on a fwd is you will notice the wheel hop and steer. but they def feel a lot more powerful than my shawd. i suggest looking into the 16' as their tech is much more improved. was never a fan of the audio/nav setup on the 13-15. while the 16' is still touch screen, they seem to be a little more user friendly and the graphics are much better.

Those new Accords have a lot going for them...

A 6-6 coupe would be great...

The auto sedan can run 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds, so a 6-6 coupe would be faster...

Not to mention, you can get Hondata for it, as well as other mods...

It should get much better fuel economy than the TL...

You also get something that's been gone for nearly a decade in all Hondas and Acuras, the old starter sound...

That's the best part I think!!!

The fact that you know this made me just give you a gold star in my books. You really are a mystery. But it's only 10:35pm here.

My favorite thing is a starter sound...

I used to record sound clips in parking lots all of the time...

I think I found this out on another forum or a RedlineReviews video, Sofyan always point out starter sounds on Hondas...

I can attest that the 16 Touring Coupe is awesome-just leased one. The tech is much improved from the 13 I had previously leased. The Touring has many Acura features including the suspension so it drives much like my 12 TL SH-AWD-only with a lighter feel.

Thanks for the comments.
While the whole idea of the car appeals to me, I don't think I can get past the horrible styling of the back end.
The wheels look really cheap but could be changed.
But all those creases and phony air ducts etc. really turn me off.
The chrome strips are pretty goofy looking too.
I really don't care about the so-called tech. I buy for the engine, the sound, the trans. the feel of the shifter, and the styling.
Aah well.....

Upon further review, (as in the U.S. Open) I just cannot buy this car. Accord coupe. The back end styling is just atrocious.
I like the idea of the car and would love a V6 6 MT. But the car is just ugly at the back.
I'm considering a Mercedes coupe.

I think the coupe still looks too much like the 8th generation coupe... Clearly the trunk lid, roof line, and rear seat window trim is exactly the same parts... Been noticing that for three years...

I wish they still made the 6-6 sedan as I prefer the styling and convienance of a sedan or wagon...

If your set on a manual, go where you need to...

I don't find it appealing too. I am not sure I like any of the newer Honda/Acura models aside from the NSX but that's a whole different story.

I think my next car will be an IS350 f-sport. It is smaller than the TL but I expect it to be fun to drive and good on maintenance. I would personally stay away from the Germans as I am hearing some horror stories regarding reliability and cost of ownership.

The IS350 hauls... One guy had 0-60 in 4.5-4.8 seconds!!! And it's RWD...

If I were you I'd get a GS...

But that's good...

I also felt quite nice around the GS F sport, the 5.0 model... 467 HP, but it's expensive...

The IS 350 should feed the beast of speed pretty well though... I want to drive or just ride in one, just to see what it's like... WOT of course...

Ok, this has peaked my interest a bit...

How about front suspension on 13-16 accord?
I was looking at v6 accord coupe 2015, very thing is good but I mind front suspension which is not double wishbone anymore.

v6 coupe is lighter than 4th TL very apparently. But it is good car. however could not compare to 4th TL.

I'm still thinking.............lol.
I see that the 2012 version of the Accord coupe does not have the goofy rear end styling so maybe I'll look at a used one if I can find a black 6/6 MT.
I don't even car if it has Navi and I could do without a radio.
(remember when a "radio" was an option?)
There are a few G37 coupes available used also so I'd like to drive one of those. 330 hp I believe it is.........
I'll still keep the TL, just getting rid of my 2nd vehicle.
Thanks for the comments about the German brands.
A friend of mine just took his VW Jetta in for service and they soaked him $700 for trans. fluid change and a few filters. Yikes.

Honestly a 6spd 335 would fit the bill better than most cars you are looking at. 3-series parts aren't that expensive and upkeep/DIY stuff isn't too bad with the huge 335 community. As terrible as german brands are, even I believe that, I would totally buy a 335.

Do you feel similarly toward the M3 of any range of years? Curious for making my decision, years from now.

The V8 M3's have had some issues around the 100K mark with bearings similar to the V10's however with a rebuild they should be rock solid just like with the IMS Bearing in Porsches.

Update, in case anyone cares.....lol.
Despite my earlier comments about never buying German, I went and bought a used BMW.
I got a 2012 135i 6MT which is a very small car and very "sporty". It was a good price and the car has 54,000 km (33,000 miles).
It's like new, as much as a 4 year old car could be. The dealer installed new rotors and new tires and did some other servicing.
It has the 3.0 L 300hp, 300 lb.ft N55 engine and a very cool exhaust note.
The styling is subdued BMW, There's no navigation, no touch screen, no internet nonsense, it's just a hot car.
I do have some trepidation but decided I'm too old to worry about sh*t I can't control.
But I (we) still have the 4G TL which is also a very good car and I plan to keep it indefinitely.
Don't give me any trash about "mid-life crisis" - I'm well past mid-life by about 30 years.
Thanks for the comments and answers to my original questions.
Jim

Nice pickup, Jim! I've always been a fan of the old 1 series despite some of the criticism it gets. I would absolutely rock that car. I'd also either have the wheels painted or sell them and get a set of Style 359s or VMRs.

I don't think of a used BMW 1-series with "mid-life crisis"

Corvette? Definitely though

1-series looks nice

Nice pick up.
With 3.0L 300hp that thing can go fast.. I'm not sure about the comfortable level compare to the 4G ...
Let us know how you feel .... I'm sure the exhaust note will put a smile on your face..

Thanks for the feedback.
I'm very sad to say that Honda/Acura does not sell a new car that I would want to buy today.

Yes I have exactly feeling about this, I do not want to buy their new products, they cut off too much instead of adding something like headlight and infotainment system.

I still drive the TL some days but most of the time I drive the 135i.
I like them both,
Obviously very different vehicles and both are very fast.
Thanks for the comments.
My plan now - subject to change - lol - is to keep the TL another 4 years and then replace it in 2020 when it's 10 years old.
So I hope to enjoy Acurazine for a long while yet!
Jim
