Had a TLX Loaner for a Couple of Days
Took our MDX to the dealer for a heated seat repair and asked for a TLX loaner (3.5 SH-AWD with the 6 speed auto) since I am considering one. Here are my impressions:
TLX Pros: suspension is nicer, soaks up bumps, tighter feel and is more fun to throw in to a turn. Being lighter, without the nanny systems on, you can ride just at the edge of oversteer on hard turns. Did that in a big mall parking lot. Surprisingly big inside, had myself as my two kids in it and it wasn't awful, wouldnt do a cross country trip in it with 4 of us but that's what the MDX is for anyway. Stereo is just as good or slightly better than the ELS in my 2013. Overall, I liked it, not sure enough to trade in my 2013 tho.
TLX Cons: slower than the TL. Lined the two cars up at least 15 times and the results were the same. TL pulls slightly ahead to 35 and then it gets ugly. The TL walks away from the TLX pretty handily in a race to 75-80. The touch screen wasn't familiar to me. I wish it was a more intuitive system and interface. Smaller trunk but that's to be expected, its a smaller and lighter car. Hated, hated, hated the auto off while sitting at signals and what not and the transmission had an occasional funky shift here and there. To me, seems like they need to work out a couple issues with that transmission.
Overall, Im partial to the TL given my current life situation (wife and a couple growing kids) and the size difference between the two cars. Acura has to make the TLX faster than the TL. Otherwise, I think Acura hit the nail on the head with finding a good compromise between the TSX and the TL. I'm not sure how it's selling, but it'll be interesting to see the refresh.

Drifting
I have driven a few FWD V6 loaners and have found them to be enjoyable cars. Quick, smooth, and lots of creature comforts. They are definitely slower than my TL (but maybe not up to about 30 mph) and much softer with more roll, noticeably less grip, etc. They appear to be well-made, but seem to have a tad more plastic and less metal/leather in the interior. But still, overall, a nice drive. I can't see letting go of my TL for awhile, especially since it's almost impossible to get an MT in a mid-sized car any more. It would probably take a updated version of the TL-S (TLX-S?) to get me to move, along with a more responsive (DCT, if not MT) transmission.
