Great highway gas mileage on my TL SH-AWD
I have a 2010 TL SH-AWD, with 5K miles on the odometer.
In general, I have not been pleased with the fuel economy.
However, this past weekend, on my first long trip, about 700 miles round trip, with an average speed of 75 mph, I achieved 26.4 miles per gallon.

That is pretty good, I baby my car on hwy and on flat terrain can get close to 26, but realisticly on HWY I get between aroun 24 or a tad over at best. The AWD power train loss and weight really penalize the car, my 3G TL used to get 29-30 on the HWY with the 3.2 and my TL-S used to get 27-28 on HWY

I do about half suburban/urban driving and half highway at speeds around 65 (my trip computer average speed shows about 35 mph).
Have about 1500 miles on the car so things are still pretty tight, but I'm averaging 24.1 mpg. Very satisfied with that, given the power and size of the car.
In my experience with Hondas and Acuras, they don't really start achieving optimal MPG until they get about 30K miles on them.

MPG does seem down quite a bit from my 3.2 CL-S. I'm thinking about taking off the cat and seeing how big of a difference that makes.
All these cries for an exhaust on the forums and I finally got under it and looked at the factory exhaust. Boys - it's pretty darn good.

I've been super lucky with my 3G TL. I've been getting 27-28mpg avgs consistently, with 30-33mpg on open highway/interstate commuting and road trips!

Have gotten between 26 and 27 highway each/every fill-up going back to October when I bought it, and I'm currently sitting at 17.5K miles. I'm sure that if I were on a sustained, no stops between fill-ups trip the mileage would approach (if not slightly exceed) 28mpg, but I haven't made that kind of trip yet. This last Tuesday was the first time I ever saw the computer reflect 30+mpg after fueling, but this didn't last for very long (normally only gets into the 27's).

Things got better for me now that the temps are warmer and the engine has loosened up at 15k miles. The past winter I was struggling to get 25 MPG. I do weekly runs from NJ to Boston plus some local driving when I get up there. The past week I got 26.5 MPG. It was 27.2 on the one leg up but local driving knocked it down a little.

I have had that with my 3G too! The computer mpg is always off by between 1-1.5mpg more than what I manually calculate at the pump. Once in a great while it will be practically right on the money but the majority of the time there is a 1mpg difference!

I think there are differences in driving style and location.
I drive in los angeles, city and suburbs. (85-90% city) So even if i try, its difficult to get amazing gas mileage.
For my shawd, i averaged 14.5-15mpg. For my base, i average around 16-17.5mpg.

The max mpg it will display seems to be 150 MPG
- Going downhill on a highway, you need to get to about 80 mph and reset the mpg counter while letting go of the gas for 1 minute or so...
Since I have a 6MT, I just cruise in Neutral for a while...
I also notice that the meter can be fooled by doing short burst of gas at a time (instead of a long pedal push), and it will achieve higher MPG reading... (similar to how you drive a Prius to save gas)

I came from a '07 335i, drove it pretty hard, and was able to average about 23.4 mpg for the 3.5 years I had the car.
I moved into a '10 SH-awd, and after getting only 16mpg on my first tank, I tried altering my driving habits a little bit. Now I can barely maintain 20 mpg, mostly highway driving at 75-80 mph in southern CA. I track my mpg on Fuelly.com. It's free and pretty nice to be able to compare with other TL owners. Unfortunately, I'm the only '10 TL owner on that site. Maybe some others wanna join and compare You just input your miles, gallons, and price/gallon.. and it will calculate gas cost / year, cost / mile, etc. I notice that the 3g owners can be getting 28 mpg, 3g type- S are around 18.
I have found that going through a fast food drive-thru totally kills my mpg. It will drop between 0.2 - 0.8 mpg, depending how many cars are in front of me. I don't know if going inside to save gas is worth the extra wear on the engine for an additional stop/start ? Any thoughts?
