Good Price?
I just picked up my blk/blk '12 Advanced and love it. Was offered a 7 yr 120k mile extended warranty for $1,933. Is that a good price? Is it worth it? It covers everything except cosmetic stuff. I can still get it in the next few days he said. Didn't get it in my '04 and it would have been a better deal but not by a bunch. And if the tranny hadn't gone out I would have lost money on that extended warranty, so I'm hesitant. Thanks!

You know very well you are not going to own the car for 7 years so why bother with the 7 year warranty?
Once you see the awesome 2014 TL you will trade it in.

Wait just a minute....Acurator, first, I've kept a car over 7 years, so your argument doesn't float. Second, you don't know what the 2014 TL is going to look like. What are you talking about?

Congras! I got the same car, and also purchased the 7yr but 75k mile warranty. It was $2100 with dent protection included as well. The reason I opt for 75k is because I will only be driving less than 200 miles per week, so I will never hit the 75k mile limit in 7 yrs.
It all depends on your own choice and budget. If you factor in the money in finance, it's not much to spend. But if your car ever need any major service after the 4yr / 50k miles standard warranty, will you have the fund to fix it? if you are going to keep it more than 7 yrs (I will), I think it's a feel safe insurance to buy, imo. Good luck!

Think about it this way - your buying a 40k vehicle. And you want to finance an extra 2K into a loan for warranty work? -- why not put that money somewhere for the next couple of years and make it work for you... if you have the funds to buy a 40k+ vehicle you shouldn't have any reason to quibble about dents, or fuel costs, or minor repairs when they crop up. You should have established enough of a savings so you don't take a hit and have to "worry" about where the money is going to come from...
Ideally the car should be bought cash - if not bought cash, financed and paid off ASAP.

Every time Consumer Reports analyzes these extended warranties their conclusion is that they aren't worth it. If you were buying a GM product I'd say go for it but I wouldn't do it for a car with Acura's reliability record.

I think my main point is if your buying a 40k and your financing, the goal is to finance as little as possible. That means put down more money, don't add in extra's which will save you interest in the long run.

Please go ahead and get the extended warranty. Since I have kept my car for 12 years I am sure you can keep yours for at least 7 years.

Thanks for all the replies. I agree with most of your points. I will definitely keep 7 yrs. My '04 TL is still in the garage!
I also think extended warranties are questionable but with all the electronics in this bad boy I was wavering. The mechanical stuff I'm willing to roll the dice on. And yes I can shoulder a major non-warranty issue if I had to. Just thinking about multiple $2k type of electronic things.
......still undecided and over-analyzing....

Just think of the extended warranty as another form of auto insurance. You may not need it; but just in case that if you need it, it will save your pocket big time.
