Good MPG today

I know many of us did not buy the TL for the gas mileage, especially if the SH-AWD was purchased. In the past I have owned a Civic Hybrid, so gas mileage is a thing for me. Today I took the TL in for the first oil change at the dealer we purchased the car from. The dealer is 2.5 hours away. I know I could have done this closer, but more than anything I wanted to get a really nice drive in the car that I don't often get to do. Round trip, with some shopping, but very little "city" traffic, was 291.5 miles. I filled up when I left and filled up after I got home, the car estimated 27, but the calculated mileage was 29.2. I averaged between 70 and 80 on the road, with some very small stints above 80.

Thanks for letting me ramble. I still really enjoy the car.

When I went to get my car the salesman mentioned that he owned a TL as well and that he gets better gas mileage than what Acura states. He was clear that in order to get those he has to be very nice modulating the gas pedal. So it's not unheard of. Obviously you did a good job controlling the gas pedal or were you using the cruise control.

Did not use the cruise. I learned with the Civic I can do a better job than the cruise can, most of the time. The cruise tends to try very hard to keep the speed up hills, I try to get ahead of the hill and that seems to do better.

There have been a few threads discussing MPG of the TL and it's interesting that some of us are able to get very good mileage, while others not so much. I've been pretty pleased with mine. I just got back from a trip, Austin-Dallas (~217 miles) all highway I-35, and got 33.2. It was a mix of cruise and manual with speeds 55-75. I've previously gotten 34 on other highway trips.

I was pleased with this tank. I have heard the car will do better as it gets older, I only have 5500 miles so far.
One thing that is interesting to me is that the car estimated 27.0, far different from my calculation. I actually did something unusual with this fill up. After the pump auto shutoff, I pulled it to another auto shutoff.

Since the '12s are the only TLs I have had any experience with I can only guess that the MID in the 2010 is similar. Using the up/down arrows on the steering wheel you should see different pieces of information on the display between the tach and the speedometer. That is where I get the estimate as given by the car. I leave the "b" trip unchanged so I get an estimate for the total miles of the car, while "a" is reset after every fill up.

The AWD car, with proper tire pressure and driving technique is perfectly capable of doing 30+MPG highway. Keep the tach under 2k, the tires above 38PSI, the sunroof tilted and the windows cracked instead of running the A/C.

Cool Gas Milage

Good to hear your accomplishment surrounding the gas milage. We are new TL type S owners and I am interested to hear what others are experiencing. Thanks

i was very surprised to see 27.9 average MPG on my trip computer, when I picked up my certified 2010 TL from a dealer and drove 200 miles on highway. I was doing 80mph and did not use cruise control.
