"Free" 50 point inspection

I'm wondering how many of my Canadian friends got the offer in the mail that I received last week, for a free 50 point inspection (plus a garment bag and insulated travel mug). I assume it was Canada only, as it came from "Acura Canada". I'm booked in for next week.

Life, however, has made me a skeptic, and I know that nothing's truly free. So I'm curious what experience others have had with this deal. I'm assuming that either they'll find a few hundred dollars worth of work I need, or that they're doing this to scope out cars in decent shape to later make a push for trade-ins.

Any experience with this?

More like, Free "here let us find things 'wrong' with your car so we can sell you parts labor at exorbitant prices unnecessarily".

There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

^ Actually, when my local dealer offered the free inspection, yes, they did say I needed brake pads which I didn't need. But they did find that my battery was low and replaced it under warranty.

That was my first thought, but again, it came from Acura, not my dealer. I'm not certain that Acura is out there drumming up service business for it's dealers.

I don't see many TLX's on the road around here; the odd one or two, but not many. I wonder if it's part of a push to try and get current owners out of their TL's and into a TLX. Gets owners into the dealership, and let's the dealers see what the trade in market looks like.

Just got the call from the dealer; my free inspection turned up no major issues, aside from the need for an oil change (MID is sitting at 50%, but they say the oil is dirty), and the need for new engine and cabin air filters. Sort of what I expected.

I'll spring for the oil change, since I've never been completely sold on the reliability of the MID, and an oil change is relatively cheap insurance (even though I usually don't pay dealer prices for oil). Needless to say, I'll attend to air filters myself.

Now to see if I get a call in the next little while offering me a great trade in value if I jump to a TLX. Interestingly, the guy I shared a shuttle with after the drop off hadn't heard of the free inspection coupon, so it mustn't have gone to all Canadian owners. He was driving an MDX.
