First Road Trip for 2012 TL!

Well, i'm pretty excited, so i just had to share with you guys. After owning the car for 3 months, I'm finally going on my first road trip with my 2012 TL SH-AWD 6MT!! Leaving on Thursday for a 9-10 hr trip from just outside of Toronto to New York City (Queens). Looking forward to the ride, and experiencing the Tech Package at it's fullest. I am also eager to have a real test of the Fuel Economy on this trip. I'll be sure to post a follow up review when i return on Sunday!

make sure to prep your leather for long trip.

give it a nice conditioning. Put some leather rejuvenator so that it does not ware, dry, and crack.

even though your car is still new, i would still recommend you to
check your oils, brake, tire pressures, tire sidewalls, radiator fluids.

never know what might go wrong.

Thanks for the tips, i always do check the oils, brakes, TP etc. But never thought about the Leather....makes sense. I will apply some conditioner tonight. Lucky thing the weather is quite nice here, so it won't be too cold for me to do a complete inspection in my garage.

Planning on stopping in Scranton? Here's a place to take a break

You might have heard about it on The Office but this is a real place:

Poor Richards Pub 125 Beech St, Scranton, PA 18505 (570) 344-4555 ‎

Might be a good spot to do some Tourist Stuff, it is right across the river from the Steamtown National Historic site.

Although, it looks like my kind of place, dive sports bar! Maybe it's not such a good idea.

NY Cops will grab you on the Thruway if you speed. Be careful.

Trust me, i already know that. I got a $380 U.S ticket doing 80mph in a 65mph on the I90 a few years ago doing this trip. As soon as they see Ontario Plates, your screwed. They hate us.

Due to the fact that we are only going for a few days, won't have much time for detours along the way. But Scranton does sound like a cool place to check out. I always think of "The Office" when driving by. lol

Have fun! Our first road trip was actually the day we bought the car. We flew up to northern California to pick it up from the dealer and drove it back to Los Angeles. The car is really fun to drive and has lots of gizmos to keep you entertained.

Two weeks ago I drove my 2010 FWD Tech from Kitchener to Tampa. Easily got 700 km per tank and averaged 8.0 l/100 km for the trip according to the MID. Drove at about 120 kph most of the time.

I've driven from Philadelphia to Chicago and back twice now. ~800miles each way. The car was rock solid.

I managed 400+miles/tank, 28mpg when cruising at 70mph and 25mpg at 80mph. I have a 5AT. Hope you enjoy your trip!

AWD will handle any storm all right. Just take care when driving fast over puddles of water.

Hey Guys,

Back from my trip and thought i would give you a reveiw. The drive was great, Raining on the way down to NY, but nothing serious. Nav worked amazing and accurate. And was pleasantly suprised with the gas mileage. The car averaged 9.5 - 9.9 L/100km......with the Cruise Control set at 110km/h (70MPH). I drove 650km before filling up the tank, and that was the last line before empty. After filling up, the MID showed 714 km on the Range.

So all in all, i was pretty happy with the Fuel Economy.

Thanks. Can you a talk a little bit about the ride, comfort, handling?

The ride is nice and smooth. I don't find it to be harsh in anyway like some others may say. Even in New York City, the worst of the worst roads like on the Van Wyck and the briges, the car felt smooth, but still stiff and stable. Traction was great, body roll was minimal. Comfort was also oustanding, however i did have a slight pain in the lower right of my back. I think it's due to a pre-existing condition......so that made me a little uncomfortable. I fooled around with the seat and messed up the memory, so it is taking a while for me to find that sweet spot again. lol, but that was my own fault. My only gripe is the steering. It's not horible, but i find it a little to soft. I wish it had a stiffer steering feel, such as my Infiniti G37. The steering is not horible, but it could use some work. Actually my previous 2010 had a nicer steering feel than the 2012. Other than that.....it was a great experience.

Thanks again. Appreciate the write-up. I haven't taken a "road trip" yet, but I suspect that much like your road trip, I would really enjoy it.
