Finally, the 4G TL RonJon Grille has progressed with detailed info and pics!!!

So we've been back and forth and a fairly simple grille was designed to replace the oversized OEm grille that comes on the new 4th Gen TL.

The hardest part was to make it from ABS plastic and make it a direct bolt in piece. This require us to make the grille a 2 piece shell to accommodate the mounting hardware and fasteners and have the 2 pieces sonic welded to make the whole thing work as well as the OEM grille. This increases the price a bit, but keeps the quality as high as possible on an aftermarket grille which brings us to another topic, the price.

We are holding a group buy discount for Acurazine members which allows the grille to be purchased for $545 each if preordered before the grille goes on sale in 1 month (8/22/09). After that the price for stocked grilles will be $645.

The grille will be offered in prepped and primered condition, and all that will have to be done is the painting by a shop or dealer. We may have a painted option available, but I have to make sure in the coming weeks.

We will be keeping customers updated with images of the progress along the way on a page to be built and added to our Aerodynamics page of the ronjonsportdesign.com site.

The concept:

The development of the prototype:

That looks really awesome! Will the final product be close to the above concept? I don't see the cutout for the middle piece on the prototype? I'm definately interested in that grille though!

I think you should just put a big Acura emblem in the middle like the MB C and M classes.

It looks like a stock grill with the middle cut out.

Another interesting idea may be to just sell that grill frame and let people make their own grill. I think it'd look great with some black mesh.

Even without painting, the ability to retain the same silver frame of the OEM grill, but fill in something different is something I find interesting.

That may not flow with your business model, but it's just an idea.

Its a work in progress, these pics are the first step.

Deadline for the GB is 8/22/09 when we project the grille to be in stock and shipping out.

I am debating on leaving the middle open so customers can either leave it empty or drop in the "A" Acura logo. Still tho, I think the bar across the middle will make it look even more aggressive and break up the space a bit.

Here are some ways the grille should end up looking, painted with different schemes of Body color and Silver paint:

Or if we leave the bar out, you can opt to drop in the "A" logo onto the mesh, or keep it open with the RJ logo, or no logo at all.

seeing the dev of this grill makes me want to get a TL haha. Acura really needs to connect with you and offer RonJon kits from the factory!

That very last pic with the painted chrome and the "A" logo in the middle of the mesh looks great IMHO.

Also IMHO, the aforementioned grill should have been the 4G TL grill by default.

Thanks for the renderings Ron. It's a tough choice between the silver bar and the Acura logo in the middle. Both look great!

the last set of pics do look bulkier, especially on the sides. i prefer the pics up top with the slimmer sides and the bigger opening...

i like the bar too, second place would be open with the RJ emblem

It is bulkier, but the opening is now a continuation of the headlight shape and size, so it all flows together. I think I might shrink the size of the sides of the grille just a tad. The bar is staying in there, An Acura logo can be custom mounted if needed afterwards, but the bar breaks up the space nicely.

Me thinks the placement of that center bar vertically is going to be critical to the final look of the grill design

WOO-HOO !!! Yay for Ron!!!

And BIG THANKS to BuckVegas for donating his car, and driving around in an AME Pacer while this is being produced

Ron- I think, as close to the original proto-type photo would be the best... thinner sides, with the twin metal bar in the middle, IMO, is perfect

I will surely be in on this group-buy!!!

I definately agree that the twin metal bar needs to be in there to break up the space, seeing those new pics has pretty much sold me on getting this grille! Excellent job Ron!

Ya the 76 pacer has been getting me by the past three weeks. It's all good, it makes me appreciate the luxury experience of the TL. After ronjon my TL goes to another major performance part company for test fitting. Any guesses on what's next?

I am talking to the lead engineer about having the bar a removeable piece so it can be painted seperatly and so it can be left out in place of the Acura logo for the dealerships who want the logo still in there. I can't wait! I am seriously considering the TL 6MT when it comes out too, so maybe a kit is also around the corner. With a set of 20" Sentinels, the grille and the kit, this is going to be the new posterchild for RJ Sport Design...

So Ron, what would the total out-the-door price be for a painted grill with the middle bar and Acura logo?

In 100% for the grill - looking forward to more pics as the final design is complete... personally, I like the last pic with the Acura logo in the middle, but I'd be curious to see the final version with the horizontal bar and Acura logo installed.

I like it in all versions. I will have to see it complete and on the cars before I decide which version will suit the WDP. Either-way, very nice work RJ. Beautifully done. I've been waiting for this grille am very excited to purchase it. Thank you RonJon!!!
