Engine weird knock noise?

First, check the oil level, then use a stethoscope to locate the source of the noise.

Timing belt tensioner
My knocking noise on 2013 TL SH-AWD was the timing belt tensioner. Replaced, all good now.

Could be a few things if the tensioner and belt were replaced. If you are doing a valve adjustment, check the cam lobes at that time as on the j37 they tend to deteriorate prematurely.
