Drove a 2013 TL SH-AWD for the first time
I'm basically a BMW guy but it's time to replace my e46 328i (I still have a 335 convertible which I'll be keeping for a long time) and have been looking at G37s and TLs (it's got to be a manual transmission). Well I finally got to drive a TL SH-AWD (automatic, unfortunately) and I came away impressed. Interior is really nice, stereo is amazing. The car felt solid and planted and I thought the steering was nicely weighted (despite reading a C&D article to the contrary). It didn't feel as big as it is. The 3.7 liter revved smoothly to redline and had more pull than I expected. Overall, a very nice car. I can only hope the manual tranny will be even more rewarding. I think this is an underappreciated car. I will be looking to buy a 3.7 liter manual and hopefully won't run into the oil consumption issue!

If you like the AT, you will love the MT. Happy hunting and let us know how it goes.

I too had a deep love for manuals when I was younger and would have loved a 6 speed manual in my TL, but I compromised and got the auto. Sigh. It is a great car, and if agree greatly under appreciated with with the SH-AWD system. The 3.7 pulls hard in sport mode if you keep the RPMs above 4300ish. It's also great in the snow as a bonus. As I keep saying here, with the stereo and "old tech" 3.7, it'll be in the stable awhile. I love it. As for the oil consumption issue, I haven't had any real issues (added 1/2 quart after 4,000 miles once) and don't give it a second thought. I have 41,000 on the MDX and 35,000 on the TL and both have been bulletproof (knocking on wood).

The ELS system is pretty solid as stock system go. I love cranking the music up in my 2013 TL SHAWD with the ventilated seats on and just go.
I am fine with the auto only option on my model. I owned manuals in my 67 chevelle, 79 rx-7, 85 Rx-7, 89 CRX, and 93 Prelude. These days manuals are superior for shifting speed and mpgs, exp the dual clutch autos. Sure I miss using a manual however I fine until a get a car with it.

The car is an excellent choice. If you like MTs, then you'll really love the car in 6MT trim. The combination of the MT and the AWD system makes for a great ride. Also, suspension on the MT is, IIRC, a bit stiffer than the AT's.
