Does the car have aftermarket alarm ?

If it does, that piece could be the ultrasonic proximity sensor.

Otherwise, it could be an external speaker, for that rear passenger who has hearing problems.

The rear seat back cannot be folded down.

Here's how to remove the rear seat back, if you're interested :

You said the car had back up sensors that were not working right?
My guess would be that the sensors may be an after market, non oem kit and they place the speaker for the warning inside the car and it possibly fell down, or is not concealed very well.
That would be my best guess.

Click here to see how to remove rear seat. Since it doesn't fold down that's your only option.

Sdelia seems to be on to something. That's the best guess so far IMO. Though I don't understand why someone would install parking sensors on a car with a backup camera.

Like everyone said. Could be the warning speaker for backup sensors. Why not just look at your rear bumper and see if there are sensors mounted, if you do. Does the car beep when in reverse and close to an object? If you get no sound then something is not working with the sensors and or warning speaker.

Either that or it's the intercom system between the front passengers and rear passengers

?? holy cow, WTF is that?

It kinda looks like the dummy speaker cameras that the cops use in their sting operations. It's designed to look like a speaker, but its really for video/audio recording...not that I would know anything about sting operations, especially those involving prostitution.

If you didn't expect much help then you shouldn't have posted the question. The members here really do their best to help everyone out....for free! Well kind of. The price you pay may be in the form a joke or two. Don't be a smart ass and rude. I can almost assure you that with an attitude like this, some of us damn sure wont help you out in the future.

just get rid of it... the backup camera / grid lines should be better than the backup sensor... i wouldn't want that thing flopping around on my rear shelf...

if they will fix it for free and you like it - just have it fixed..but if they give you crap and want $$ to fix it, I'd just toss it. you don't need it.
