I do. I wonder why Acura made those cars so similar looking? I generally have to catch a glimpse of the rear end to tell the difference.

It's called brand cohesion, it reinforces a brands design language or identity. Many brands do it, some better than others. A side effect is that, for people that don't pay attention to details, things begin to look the same.

Before the MMC, I would say no, did not confuse them. With the 2012 TL out now, I've found myself looking twice to see if it was a TL or a TSX.

I was looking at motorweek and i saw the new TL at once confused for TSX, and it is the same thing for BMW too, very difficult to distinguish between 3 and 5 from the front from little far distance

Only with the 12 TL n the TSX. The 09 TL had a much different front compared to the TSX.

BMW and Audi are worst. Almost everything in their lineup looks same. One sausage different length.

It is really hard to tell the difference. Whenever I see a really good looking Acura going the other way, it's a 2009 - 2011 TL. I don't think I have actually seen a 2012 driving down the road, just lot's of TSX's. I'm not sure why anyone would buy a 2012 TL unless they went with the SH-AWD.

Yes, exactly. The 2012 grill now looks just like the TSK. Brand identity be damned, I don't think most folks want to spend 40k to have their TL mistaken for a TSX...otoh the TSX crowd must love it.

This is good. This is called brand identity, which is what Acura has been desperately going after for the recent years.

Acura wants everyone to recognize only the Acura brand name (not the individual model) from looking at the front of it's products, just like Audi, BMW, and MB.

I only confuse the 2012 TL with the TSX; (same with 3rd gen TL and previous gen TSX)

I'm here in LA and have yet to see a 2012. I constantly mistake TSX's for 2012's. But i think that's because I'm hoping so much to see a 2012 TL on the road. Haven't been in to see the dealer for servicing or any problems yet (7mos since purchase) so haven't had a chance to look on a lot.

...the parked 3 different model changes of the TSX side by side to show the difference and a cat pulls up in a 2012 and it definitely shares more looks now then the 09-11 TL.

My wife drives a 2009 TSX and I drive a 2010 TL SH-AWD. When the cars are parked in the driveway, I see the difference. The back is easier to tell them apart, like night and day, but the front is different , as for me it is the larger car plus the Hood is shaped differently.. The 2011 TSX wagon looks more like the 2012 TL...

I've always felt the TSX is like a baby TL, until we got to the 4G TL's.

We're talking 2012 TL and 2009-12 TSX.

You guys that say you mistake the TSX and TL's but have not seen a '12 yet.. umm, how is that possible to make that mistake?

The only thing they are too similar in is the grille. There are a couple of TSX's where I work and the grille is about the same as the TL but that is where it stops. The lower vent area, fog lights and headlights are different.. from the side and rear... not even close.

I saw an MDX coming at me the other day, I thought is was an '09-'11 TL! OMG! It does seem that they used the same grille for both.

Yes, using the grille as brand identification really holds true with several line-ups.. Audi, BMW, MB...

I do agree that the grills are similar.... too similar for my sensibilities..... but unless you are totally focused on the grill there is no mistaking a TL for a TSX IMO. The TL has much more presence.

i agree. i've had the opportunity to stare at a 2012 and 2011 sitting side by side at the dealer (i even took a pic to stare some more). i have seen a few 2012 TLs in my area and it does have a distinct "face" to the front end compared to the front end of a TSX. the front of the TSX reminds me of a stretched face of a transformer (bumblebee comes to mind)...its almost smiling at me while the TL has a much more aggressive stance and look to the "squinty" eyed headlights and front end.

if you only focus on the grill, then yeah...you would probably do a double take. really hoping acura designs and grill a little less...shieldy bucktooth look.

not sure how one would not be able to tell the difference between a 3G TL to a 1G TSX though, as some else has mentioned.

I drive up and down 95 in MD/DE and can't tell that it's a TSX until it passes me... kind of annoying, but I see a TON of TSX's, and if ever a TL

I too can't tell the difference between the TL and TSX, but the same thing can be said for BMW.
