Disappointment about the New TL 09

Disappointment of the New TL 09
I am very disappointed of the new TL . Just extremely ugly. What are those designer thinking about? Are they actually working with another car company? Or they just a fresh grad College student? The current model looks much better than the 09. The back of the car is the worst. Totally an ugly car. The interior looks ok to me but not out standing at all. the engine is bigger but the power is not that impressive compare with similar engine. Hope the mpg will be better.
Generally, the TL and the TSX is getting worst in design. For the tech, Acura just have the same option, nothing different than the other competitor. The only advantage is Acura is getting cheaper compare with Lexus, infiniti, BMW , Mbenz.
I drove 3 honda (Accord , Civic, S2000) and 2 Acura (Legend coupe, TSX ) in the past 14 years.. dude... Honda is really getting less competitive than the other auto company.I am a Honda fan since I got my first car in college. I really hope Honda will have some car stand out in the future.

Though the displacement is a bit higher than the competitors the 300+ hp 3.7L V6 should be enough for now. The Type-S should have an even more powerful engine, hopefully it comes out with the MMC and by that time Acura will have ditched that horrendous grill.
I agree with you though, in that class the TL ranks along the bottom of the barrel. It would probably be the last car I'd buy, if I HAD to buy it. G35, 3/5-series, CTS, E350, A6.... I'd buy any one of them before I'd even bother taking a look at the TL.
I actually like the TSX a lot aside from the grill.... the Euro Accord looks great. I'm sure even the RL would look pretty good with a different grill. But the TL...... we can only hope the MMC can save it.

and how long has the MMC 2G RL been out already? Almost 2 months? I still haven't seen one on the road yet.... it just doesn't make any sense, if they were going to make the TL SH-AWD extremely similar to the RL and they planned on making the RL ugly, why would they even make a MMC in the first place?

Because Honda tried to do something about poor RL sales.

It seems Acura made a small run of new RLs but production is very limited. We still have a handful of '08 RLs have have only received (and sold) one 2009. If dealers in your area are the same, you might not see anyone really selling '09s for a few more months.

and thats what I meant about the RL looking better with a different grill. don't wanna either but I mean don't you guys think it would be nice if the TL/RL had something like an inclement weather package? Something like heated and ventilated seats, headlight washers, etc. I mean, they offer AWD standard in the first place (which most people don't need) so why not capitalize on that, and also have a bit of extra appeal for people who live in those areas?

Not an Ashtray
There are ASPECTS of the new TL that disappoint me. I think it is going to be too big (which, btw, is why I am probably not going to wind up with one), wish it had a 6-speed AT, not a big fan of paddle shifters (I like the console mounted manumatic in my TSX), wish it had fold down rear seats, a few other features (ventilated seats, in particular). But, overall, I like everything else about it and I'm pretty confident it will sell as well as the last generation.
I don't buy the doom and gloom from all those who are down on the TL. Still think it will sell like mad.

completely agree with the exterior being hideous. I do like the entire though, too bad it's not longer touch screen. As for power, I couldn't agree more. Acura lacks powers against its competitors, so WE enthusiasts try to bring Acura's rep up with our mods, then we get slammed with a VOID warranty. Even a simple interior light bulb change, can void warranties... ridiculous. Anyways, all and all... I fear for Acura's Future.

Acura wants to shift the RL from 2011 on to the category of the Lexus LS. Great.
Then, if I' m right, the TL is intended taking the free place that will leave the next RL, right?
In fact, the 4GN TL is almost big like the RL, 4,96m.
It means that is useless comparing the old 3GN (great) TL to the new one, because in fact they are playing in different categories: 4,83m against 4,96m, 1,83m width against 1,88m.
But:
1) The new RL is not ready and the restiled one is 100% DEAD because of the design and of the new TL.
An RL with less power and technology of the 4GNTL , but is 6-10k more expensive of the TL and nobody knows why
2) The new TL however IS NOT a 100% sobstitute of the RL.
In fact, in terms of quality (not technology) the interior of the RL is MUCH better of the 4GN TL one. (only the few owners of the RL understand the overall better quality of their car VS the TL one).
For that reason the TL is cheaper of an RL.
Then we get:
A new TL that is not more a TL (and then a direct cuncurrent of the G35 and so on) but smth like a cheaper sobstitute of the RL,waiting for the shift in category of the next gen RL.
For the moment, and for the next, long 2 years Acura will sell the RL and its newer, cheaper and more technological sobstitute, the 4GN TL.
Conclusion:

It's like to see 2 ugly girls on the road, one a little more ugly than the second.
The RL and Legend are both ugly, the RL a little bit more to be honest, and the old one was far more better looking.

I thought it was pretty common knowledge, but I guess since they don't allow us to put where we work in our signatures it's hard to tell sometimes.

My guess is the RL will remain or die, I suspect they'll revive the Legend Name on a RWD big V8 based car. You can see the ads now...
"The car that started it all is back..."
I mean they did start this near luxry class with the Legend then Lexus and Infiniti jumped in latrer on so I can easily see a huge marketing campaign around that.

Wow, I open p. 12 of the September 12th issue of AutoWeek and what do I see: a picture of the 2009 TL and three negative letters. Here are the letters in their short and sweet form:
"The front end of the new Acura TL looks like a pumpkin carving experiment gone horribly wrong! Looking at the new Honda Pilot, the Accord Sedan and the Civic's interior, I'd vote for replacing every vehicle designer or stylist at Honda and Acura with a kindergartner who has a big box of crayons. The kids couldn't do an worse"
"I'm one of the TL loyalist Acura was hoping to keep. I've owned both the 1999 and 2004 models and hoped the '09 would make me want to trade in again. But I can't see myself plunking down money for this new model. Acura has lost its way"
"Lets thank Acura for answering the question no one was asking: What would a Pontiac Aztek sedan look like"
yikes those are harsh, but I'm in full agreement.

i think this grill definitely has potential. if they can take the 3G design, mess around with it a bit, and add that grill, it would definitely look better than the current hideous design.
