Customer loved the car and enjoyed the ride

So I met a couple of customers this morning from a cargo airline in Japan. I had to lead them across the street to our sister company so they could meet with the company that is going to boroscope the engines they're interested in. So they hop in their car and I hop in my TL. I glanced over my shoulder to see if they had noticed the car i was getting into. They were staring at the car, pointing, oooing and awwing. I thought for sure that they were looking with disgust as it seems to the general consensus.

It was the exact opposite, they loved the car. One guy said "thats a very nice car", the other guy said "thats a very nice Acura" I told them thanks. This may not seem like much of a compliment, but from someone who says very few words, I see it as a big compliment. When we left the sister company and were headed back to my company I asked one of them if they wanted a ride and he jumped at the opportunity. When he opened the door he said "oh very nice, racing seats" Then he climbed in and was in love with the interior. As I was reversing he saw the back up camera and said "very nice, back up monitor".

When we pulled to the street I asked him if he wanted me to go fast and he almost screamed "YES!" So I punched it out of the drive and he was so happy. He was giggling like a kid at carnival. He was excited about how fast it was and how beautiful the engine sounded (im glad I removed the intake resonator lol) I got it up to 90 and then made a u-turn to head back. Punched it again and he was giggling again.

When I pulled to the parking spot he asked what kind of car it was, I told him it is a TL. He continued to say how nice it was and how he enjoyed the ride. Makes me wonder if the TL is advertised over in Japan, and if so, how it is received. Surely, based on these guys reaction, it isnt a well known vehicle but if it were it would be received with open arms as opposed to the disgust here in America...... thoughts????

The TL used to share the same platform as the Accord and was also sold as the Inspire in Japan. However, the 4G is the very first platform that's totally not sold in Japan and does not share platform with the accord. So it would be very foreign to them.

3G was not sold in Japan, well at least i dont think so.

taken from wiki
The Acura TL is a mid-size luxury car from Honda's Acura brand. It was introduced in 1995 to supplant the Acura Vigor and was rebadged for the Japanese-market from 1996 to 2000 as the Honda Inspire and from 1996 to 2004 as the Honda Saber. The TL is Acura's best-selling model, and it has ranked as the second best-selling luxury sedan in the United States behind the BMW 3 Series.[1] Four generations of the Acura TL have been produced to date, with the latest fourth generation TL premiering in 2008 as a 2009 model. The current version is not sold in Japan.
The first third-generation Acura TL rolled off the assembly line on September 30, 2003. On October 6, 2003, the third generation Acura TL (the 3.2 moniker was dropped) was released for sale in North America. Developed mainly in the United States by a team led by Erik Berkman with bodywork by American Honda designer Jon Ikeda, the new TL was built in Marysville, Ohio, and was derived from the 7th generation US-market Honda Accord.

2G was sold in Japan under the Inspire, 3G wasn't, the 7G Accord became the next inspire. 3G and 4G TLs never touched Japan.

I feel you, I adored my 2G 3.2 CL ...nearly 10 years and 200,000 miles of solid performance were hard to part with.

What a great story! The fact that they have some great domestic (Japanese) cars being sold in Japan, and yet they still love our TL actually says a lot!

Yes, the current TL is sold in China, and I believe that it is sold there at a pretty hefty price.

Yeah it was great. The higher ranking of the two japanese men kept looking at the TL. When we went to lunch and got out of the car, he kept looking at it saying how nice it was. He said the paint was very glossy, like water. When we got back to the office he got out of the car and looked over the whole car for about a minute saying how nice it was and then talking to his partner is japanese.

Its great seeing sokmeone loving the car as much as me. I may see some more of that at Acurafest, but probably more disgust then love lol.
