Cooled seats for 2009 TL SHAWD? Is it possible to change out parts?

So I have a loaner TL SHAWD while mine is in getting the engine looked at for suspect oil consumption ( I am getting 1qt used at 2k mile intervals). This loaner has the cooled seats! I love 'em. Has anyone out there looked at replacing the heated seats with the heated and cooled seats? The center console looks the same so the button would work. Is it even possible to do this. I bet it might be pretty expensive if you need to exchange out the entire seat.

Let me know if anyone has done this or looked into it.

Thanks,

Chip

something like this may work as an aftermarket alternative.

http://www.seatcomfortkit.com/servlet/StoreFront

To swap the front seats out would not be too difficult, the wiring harness may be completely different and therein lies the expensive and tedious issue. Though if it can be done relatively cheaply I would do it as well

Link from above looks cool, however, I noticed it says professional installation required. I understand why since the seats have SRS/Airbag's installed.

It would be a very cool option to add but I have a feeling it would be rather expensive, no matter what solution (aftermarket or finding the OEM parts) to do this since the seats have SRS in them. The passenger seat would be even more tricky since it has not only SRS but the SRS/passenger sensor as well.

It is a "ventilated" seat, with fans blowing ambient-temp air from underneath the front seats.

It doesn't do cooling, unlike those on the Lexus models.

Is it possible to save money Honda used the same clip under the seat for the electronics in the advanced model and the technology? In other words if you just swapped the seat from an advanced model or even just bought one that you could plug and play into a tech or even a non tech?

Maybe regarding the wiring, but no way did they put the fans inside the seat and simply not connect them. Not to mention the switch would need to be changed as well; the advance model has a switch with 2 buttons (1 for cool, 1 for heat). Non advance is a rocker switch (lo & high) heat.

I really don't think this is a viable option unless you want to spend a couple thousand doing it. Would be cool though.

I wonder if you could find an advanced in a junk yard and get the seats with the equipment out of it? It is probably too much a pain in the butt, but what the heck. I am gonna ask my dealership what they think too.

They don't make a 6MT with the cooled seats.

I know the fans themselves would not be in the seats, but what I mean is the rest of the wiring from the seat down would be the same. In other words I would need to pick up a seat from an Advanced TL and the switch in the center console. I'm not too worried about the passenger side, screw them.

I'm thinking the wiring from the seat to the switch may be the same...if so it would be a little less involved.

I like it... screw the passenger!

I'm with you, however, I still think this would be expensive. Wiring may very well be there but finding and Advance in a junk yard might prove difficult. Maybe I am wrong. I think the original OP should be the genie pig and try this!

I would love to be the Guiney pig. I have never dealt with junk yards. How would I go about finding the models, parts, etc. I talked to my dealer today and he said he had never thought about it, but thought it was doable, but potentially expensive. Any advice would be appreciated. Plus I agree with Stella 31 I would put it in for the driver only.

The 6speed does not have an option to be purchased with the ventilated seats. Back in a day someone mentioned that the wiring is probably there and things to install would be blowers, caables and the switches. The part#'s and cost:

Parts list:
81218-SZN-A52 blower for seat cushion need 2
81616-SZN-A51 driver seat back blower need 1
81216-SZN-A51 passenger seat back blower need 1
81607-TK4-L20 power cord for drivers seat need 1
81206-TK4-L20 power cord for pass seat need 1
35650-TK4-A51 heated/fan switch driver need 1
35600-TK4-A51 heated/fan switch passenger need 1

Total cost around $630 for both seats +labour or DIY to save some cost. The info is from member stars_fan who seems to have done lots of research on it.

I am so tempted, but sub and amp for me first.

Someone has done the research for you back a while ago, with a list of the required factory part #'s.

Read Post #13 of the following thread :

I know this is like a month old but I would love to do this to my 08 tl type s tired of my back sweating. Think I could just swap the seats and controller out would the brackets still be the same? I mean the heated seat controller button looks the exact same size as the advanced button just two switched in one.
