CNET's Praised Review of the 2010 TL SH-AWD w/ Tech and 6MT

I'm not sure if any of you guys go to CNET.com or not (great site) but they just did a quick drive of the 2010 TL SH-AWD Tech. The guy driving it (Brian Cooley) is normally very blunt with his opinion on cars and he seemed to love the TL.

http://reviews.cnet.com/sedan/2010-a...ag=mncol;lst;1

Only the video is up for now. I have a feeling they'll post an actual review soon.

I'm not sure you and I watched the same video. Some quotes:
"The TL is Acura's best selling car... if not it's prettiest. It's burdened with just about the most extreme interpretation of Acura's ungainly..."

"Acura is still drunk on buttons as you can see"

He likes the "resolution and graphics" of the menu system, but never even addressed functionality (e.g. lack of search on ipod.) And halfway in all they'd talked about is the style and the stereo/nav system (again, at a high level - things like "by Panasonic" and, like three times, that XM provides sports and stock quotes.)

It wasn't until 3/4 of the way through that he really gets positive. Which was about how well it drives and handles. He does like the SH-AWD (although he drove in dry conditions only.)

So bottom line: It's ugly and has a bizarre inside interface, but is fast and stable. All true. He doesn't drive it long enough to discover the Iron Maiden like seat head restraints, the noisy sunroof (it was closed during the video), never checks out the trunk or lack of folding seats nor does he hook an iPod up to it.

Then again, the equivalent BMW would cost $6K more.

I watched the same video. I think his bottom line was actually, to quote- "If you watch a lot of our CNET car tech videos, you know I'm not one to gush over cars. ... But I'll tell you what, this car needs some gushing. This is one of the greatest driving sedans we've ever had in our CNET garage."

Great to see the 4G getting the positive press it deserves.

When did CNet stop being a site for geeks (like me)? lol. They review cars, too?

Focusing on the objective, there is no doubt about this car's abilty and driving characteristics, explaining the praise it received. Now as far as the subjective, it really all depends on the individual. I don't have what I would call a noisy sunroof or an issue with the head restraints, my music collection is stored on the hard drive so no scrolling issue either. Any other car I would have even cosidered would have also not have had a folding rear seat or I would not have paid the extra for it.

Sure, I think it is important to point out that the car is not perfect, since no car is, and any issues YOU may have but that does not mean they are necessarily consistent with the car or everyone else's. I don't know what type of individual does not welcome a little positive feedback on their vehicle choice from time to time without the need to then trash it. Do you have the same opinion of yourself or everything else you own?

A comparable and not equivalent BMW 3 series is priced practically the same but minus any options and packages, whereas the TL is loaded. So the cost difference best equally equipped is over $11k, with the actual going or selling price difference anywhere between $11k-$15k more for the BMW. As far as size, the 3 is not even comparable where in that case you will have to use the 5.

They are the 19" rims that come with the HPT's

Pretty nice review..from a guy who wasn't crazy about the design. He went past that and realize the performance machine the TL SH-AWD is.

I don't see how anyone looking at the video objectively can describe it as anything other than a "gushing" review. What does he say - one of the best sedans they've tested in the last few years?

I don't know why you 4G guys obsess over how much other people like the TL. As long as you're happy who cares? He does give it a very good review but then again he doesn't compare it to its competitors. If he did it would show that they have what the TL has and more. Just my 2 cents.

I love the 4G TL and actually dont care if someone hates the way it looks....I do however, like to hear from those who like it as much as I do, as well as those who do not like it...just to hear some opinions, have a discussion. These are internet forums, and if we didnt want opinions, we wouldnt be here, and we especially wouldnt want to be in a thread of this title.

I dont see obsession, I just see it as a thread about the TL where we can share opinions.

I saw a white 4G TL approach me on the interstate this past holiday weekend....I followed it for an hour (heading same way haha), admiring its beauty. I wanted him to slow down to avoid getting a speeding ticket!

Yes, I went to my doc a while back and complained that all of a sudden I am very sensitive to pollen and allergies that I wasn't prone to before. His answer was "Well, its called getting older" . Wise arse.

Great review. And yeah, the reviewer has dropped a few lbs. Calling it the best car he's reviewed in several years pretty much is gushing. Same color combo as my car, too.
