When I do engine details, I first pressure wash the entire engine, then use Purple Power All Purpose degreaser and coat everything. Followed by a nice scrub with a soft bristled brush. Pressure wash again, dry engine with a air gun/dryer and dress all black parts with Meguiars D-16001 All Season Dressing. Final whip with a rag to have an even finish.

Fresh every time!

I have never bagged electricals and haven't had any issues. I'm a detailer and a student.

Just don't drench the bay and you're fine. That's why we dry it off with an air gun right after cleaning and before dressing.

I use a mix of chemical guys citrus degreaser and distilled water in a spray bottle with a few paint brushes. Brush around all the areas and follow up with a towel. In another spray bottle I have more distilled water. Spray that and wipe.

Do that every 30K or so on the underhood paint, door edges/welds and engine parts that need it. Don't spray degreaser or any harsh chemicals on anything plastic or anything that resembles a hose. Give that a simple wipedown with a damp cloth. You don't want to damage any sort of rubber hoses!

For modern cars, we luckily don't have to worry about the dizzy. Back in the day, that was the only thing I didn't spray with water.

OP, you should be more than fine washing your engine bay with a pressure washer. I always do it on all three of my cars and have never had an issue. I wouldn't go to town spraying the fuse box, but going quickly over it will be ok.

Two words of advice:
1. If your engine is hot, don't be spraying it with cold water. If you're doing it at home, you have the ability for the engine to be cool and cool water is no issue. If you are driving to a car wash, just make sure they offer hot water for washing.

2. Spray the engine bay from ALL three directions, and not just from the front of the car. Literally stand at the left fender, spray, move to front, spray, move to right fender, spray. Make sure you get every nook and cranny for the best results.

Good luck!

1. Silly question but do you guys remove all the engine covers and then wash it down?
2. Will a regular hose be ok? Or is it too much water?

Of course we remove the panels lol. You can lean those and dress them separately.

A regular hose will work but with a finger over it. Not nearly as strong and precise as a pressure washer though. You can always go to a self service car wash and use that pressure washer of you don't have access to one. I've never used a hose personally.

i never have to use pressure....as I use simple green(degreaser) and a brush to agitate then water from garden hose.

if you get degreaser onto black rubber garnish, it'll turn it white. be careful

if that does happen, use armor all or a product meant to bring back shine

Instead of harsh chemicals, I use spray and wash. I just spray it on the engine and hose off. My engines still look like the day they were new.
