Changes along the years of the TL
Hey guys, family has decided on a luxury family sedan.
We have looked into both used and new and would like to know the differences that have taken place along the years of the 4th gen TL .

4th gen 1st run was from 09-11. Second run is from 12-XX
In 2012, the transmission was changed to a 6 speed auto including a multi-clutch torque converter vs the original 5 speed auto, and you gained a minor updated navigation/phone interface, as well as ventilated seats as an option. The grille was toned down a bit in the front and the rear was changed slightly including the exhaust.
Powertrain is consistent throughout all years aside from the 6 speed auto in 2012.
The hard drive for saving songs is larger in the 2012 - 60gb vs 20gb I think - but I've never used it. Supposedly the USB is faster as well - but not sure that it even comes into play in any real world scenario.
2012 added the blind spot monitoring system as well.
Aside from those changes - the vehicles are relatively identical.

The nav in the 12 is brighter, LED screen. There is also added sound deadening that makes for a quieter ride in the 12. Additional chrome accents on the dash, metal door interior door handles vs the chintzy plastic ones in the 09-12. Crappier looking rims added to the SH-AWD car, they also took out the chrome separator in the exhaust on this model and removed the chrome trim on the exterior door handles that adorned the 09-11. The bluetooth also transfers calls automatically unlike the 09-11 where you manually had to do it.
The new 6 spd tranny is a very big improvement in smoothness, the 5 spd in my 2010 drove me nuts.

Good recap couple more minor things:

Rowing my own
- Loan rates on a new car should be lower
- Any physical change to the shape of the body of the car will effect resale down the road as the 09-11 will feel "older"
- MY12+ is less polarizing appearance wise, should be easier to move then the "Beak" cars. (personal opinion)

How about if the choice was between lets say a 09-11 SHAWD tech and a 2012 FWD Tech?
I know for one thing that MPG is telling me to go with the 2012 FWD, but the fun part of me is saying ill regret not getting the SHAWD.

^ the difference in gas is not a huge one, if you want really good mpg I would look into a 4 cylinder car like a TSX or a hybrid.

Personally I spent about a month debating the pro/cons of the MY '09-11 vs 2012. I ended up with the 2012 AWD Tech that looks just like this...

6G TLX-S
The most significant differences between the '09-'11 TL and the 2012 TL are the controversial front-end grille styling and the new 6-speed auto box.
