Buying advice!

I've received a ton of advice from you guys over the years, so I thought I'd share my buying experience in the hopes that it will help someone looking for a new TL. Frustrated that the 6MT wasn't coming in any colors that I like, and the color I really wanted is being discontinued next year, I decided to take a shot at a home run yesterday. I drove it out of the park -- picked up the color combos that I wanted (Royal Blue Pearl / Taupe) with Tech/SH-AWD for ~$37,100 before tax. I even got the dealer to throw in a few extras (body side molding, splash guards, etc.). Someone in a previous post has said that this price was "stealing the car from the dealer." I disagree, and here's why:

- The dealer currently gets $2000 factory-to-dealer incentive until July 6th
- The dealer gets 1.5% MSRP for floorplan fee
- The dealer gets 2% holdback
- If you take the invoice, subtract these incentives, then give the dealer a profit (I gave him 3%) and add in destination charge, you end up with my price of $37,100. The easiest way to do this is grab the offer spreadsheet on carbuyingtips.com, which does all the math for you.

Happy hunting... I'm gonna go pick up my new car

If the dealer is willing to sell at that price it is hardly stealing. I got mine for $37,500 and the sales guy actually asked me in the negotiations if I was going to let them make any money on the deal. I asked him whether, if the economy was great, and the car in high demand, they would have cut their price in order to keep from making too much money on the deal. That was the end of that discussion.

I really want the Royal Blue, and was also sad to see that it's gone next year. Did you finance it? If so, what were the terms?

I used Acura's financing through the dealer -- 60 months for 3.9%. If you have cash, some money down doesn't hurt either to reduce the amount of interest you pay on the car. Of course, there is always the tradeoff of giving a downpayment vs putting the money in a higher yielding investment vehicle... but that is a discussion to be had over a few beers.
