Break-in period

As I just took delivery of my 12 TL Tech, is there a certain routine to use in the first miles? Dealer never mentioned anything and I did not notice any instructions in the handbook.

I imagine the cruise should be avoided as well as the high revs.

Also, should the first oil change be done sooner than the minder suggests?

Anyrhing else I should know on start-up?

The piston rings are usually set at the manufacturer after the engine is built. The 600 miles breakin period is usually for all the individual parts to properly seat in. Drive normally and avoid hard launches.

avoid hard breaking, as it may warp your rotors.

Avoid hard braking, hard starts, excessive idling and constant speed (i.e, no cruise control). Keep it off the rev limiter.

Contrary to my usual practice, both my dealer and the book say to adhere to the MID for oil changes. My first one came up at 7,500 miles. Evidently Acura uses a special break-in oil, and they really want you to keep it in there until the MID says to change it.

i think you mean to say glaze your rotors and pads....thats what you worry about when breaking in new pads or in this case a new car with new pads and rotors....

Well, that too. If you get one section of your rotor really hot due to hard breaking, then keeping the break on at a full stop, you can warp your rotors as well.

All good advice

Thanks for all the advice, it helps. Now I'm not sure about not letting it idle as I find myself trying to get all of my CD's in the HD (which is another get to know thing) and figuring I can do it in ACCESORY mode. All the fun of familiarizing yourself with the new toy...

Thanks again, and keep in touch, I'll try to get some pic's after I'm allowed to post'em.

Break in is located in te owners manual, I believe under "break in period" lol, you can warp your rotors and glaze them, it's harder to glaze them though, easier to glaze your clutch. Brake break in period is 300 miles. Clutch and engine break in is roughly 600 miles. And you do not want to cruise at a steady speed if you have a clutch, you want to keep your Rpms moving but not harsh. No downshifting or rev matching.
