Best buying time suggestion.

Was looking at TLs for awhile now, I currently have a 08 Wrangler and not really my cup of tea. Anyway to the point now, after researching I noticed this airbag problem and I was wondering what is your guys views towards this for buying? Would looking now and prices possibly dipped due to such a large portion of these vehicles having this problem and dealers worrying about this cars rep or would waiting till this issue is fixed (read that end of the summer is ideal to fix this, correct me if wrong) to have them all pop up would be a better time to search. This is all going by price and I was aiming towards the 09-10 SH-AWD due to the snow here in WV can be brutal. Any help appreciated!

There's a current stop sale on the 4G's.

until the airbags get fixed,Dealers wont sell them.

so, you're looking at 6-months to a year....being realistically, possibly even longer

That's every TL? I thought it was just a handful of ones going by VIN?

I see, that's what I was thinking for the TLs any with the set air bags unless they all run the defective airbags

The prices have dipped and increased slightly depending on who you are buying from. A private dealer will have the lower prices and acura will be on the higher end.

Honestly the right time to buy is now for anything. If you wait you'll continue waiting for the right time.

You can still buy from independent dealerships and from private sellers. I bought my 2010 Acura Tl SH-AWD in March of this year from a small independent used car dealership. The stop sale only applies to official dealerships but not used-car stores. If you do buy one, the liability is on you.

Are you on the list for the airbag now?

that's understandable, I guess i don't wanna risk the possibility, also hopping on that list might be brutal ha. I'll just start looking at the carfaxes and see if they got it done.

We just picked up a 2012 tl Advanced package with 22k miles, cert preowned from acura with the new airbags installed for 21k.

the dealership we went to said they started getting in the new airbags and are able to sell them once replaced.

I have not gotten a letter from Acura yet but I'm sure I can go into my local Acura Dealership to get on the list anytime but I think that requires me to agree to not drive my TL until it gets replaced. Since it might take until the end of the Summer to get it replaced even if I were to be on the waiting list, I chose to just wait until the supply of the replacement airbags are readily available. I only drive about 500 miles a month so that's why I chose to take the risk of still driving it. Best of luck with your search!

If the dealer has a car on the lot and someone is interested in buying it, my hunch is that dealer will likely push the priority of replacing the inflator in the car up to make a sale.

Not so--I called my dealer and put my car on the waiting list, but am still driving my TL until the part comes in. My dealer offered me a rental, but I told him that I was comfortable driving my TL. I'll get a call when they have the part, hopefully it will be fairly soon as it seems that the dealers are now getting the parts in.

Since they just recently announced that the passenger airbags could be or are defective, (IMO in think they have known all along) they will be replacing these at a later date. My thinking is they don't have the replacement parts and want to handle the drivers side first anyway.

So after the drivers side is fixed, at some later date which could be months or even years as some information has suggested, you will receive a recall notice for the passenger airbag. It's very frustrating that this is being dragged on.

For being interested in a car, you're not really doing any research...

Legitimately the first hit on Google for "acura airbag recall":
And then the second result:
You'll find that all vehicles are impacted, though a VIN is required for the replacement part to be ordered.

no I just wasn't here for the continuous time for this known information but I did read a bit on it. Even tho I haven't been here long I have seen from other posts is that your the d*** of the forum tho , also gather more research it appears Honda/Acura lied to their consumers saying this wasn't a problem in the past so I was trying to get info from a CONSUMER not the people who want you to follow what they say. Thanks!

Lol, I'm the dick of the forum. Think of it more that I'm trying to get you to learn how to help yourself, rather than spoon feed you like a child - though at 19, maybe you are a child?

You realize you don't have to censor yourself. Most of us are adults.

The recall isn't exactly hidden, secret magical knowledge that requires you to be on the forum 24/7/365. There's a ginormous thread on the front page of this section, god forbid you read through that.

Cars can still be sold with recalls via 3rd party, but not Acura directly. I mean, all you gotta do is look on Carmax.com
