Best Brake Kit for 2014 TL
whats up guys I’m in he market for a new brake kit including calipers, rotors, and pads. Do you guys have any suggestion on what may be the best kit to pick up? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, your rotors and pads may need replacing, but your calipers should still be good I would think. As far as performance goes, you are not going to notice much, if any, difference in braking power by going with more expensive rotors and pads instead of oem types. If you shell out serious cash you might see a small difference, but nothing even close to justify the price paid.

The inconvenient truth
I would echo what has already been said, 4 year old calipers must still work fine so I would assume you want to upgrade for cosmetic reasons. Your options vary widely depending on your budget. You can make your brakes look better with 30 dollars worth of paint. Or you can replace everything for easily 6000USD or more with a custom set up.
A few options and these are just rough numbers;
stoptech rotor and pad kit for around 500usd
powerstop brake kit for around 1000usd
stoptech big brake kit for around 5000usd

Doing something aggressive with my brakes tomorrow. Slotted rotors, pads, and some magical mystery tour. I will tell you what I think later. Debating about the braided stainless steel brakes line, probably just sell them off cheap instead.

Just did a stoptech/centric kit. Slotted rotors with street pads and I'm overall very happy with how my car breaks now. Previously had oem and they had "less bite". I just need to flush my brake fluid then readjust the brake stop. I got my entire set from rockauto for 380 shipped.

Do you guys change the rotors when you change the pads? Or is it more like case by case basis, e.g. inspect and replace as necessary?
I find the OEM rotors and pads work quite well for me. I am thinking to just replace the pads (Akebonos) and tune the rotors. Any thoughts?

^unless you want to spend money; it should be case by case basis...
that's how I justify "upgrades"..."oh, it's worn out....gotta get the slotted rotors!!"
on that note; MOST people who do these kinds of upgrades are prematurely changing out the rotor. I know I SURE did..I had TONS of meat left on the factory rotor.

A few comments in no particular order:
- Brake rotors have been thinned down in the interest of weight savings, especially in the unsprung weight department.
- Modern "thin" rotors will be very near the minimum thickness after wearing out a set of pads; simply turning them may well bring them under the minimum thickness spec.
- Keep in mind, the thicker the rotor the higher the "thermal mass"; when the rotors are turned, their thermal mass drops, and that will negatively affect your braking ability as you near the brake-fade threshold.

For a street car, any changes in perception of brake capability are likely due to the pad and unless you're on a race track you're not likely to experience brake fade.
I track my S2000 and use the cheapest flat rotors which can be found. More material = more thermal mass, as mentioned. Holes, slots, etc.. work against this.
