The ATLP exhaust systems sound awesome. They give a distinctly European tone that no other company has yet to reproduce on a TL which is both subtle yet additively aggressive at the same time. With a complete V2 J-Pipe, Race Pipe, and V2 Cat-Back combo, we have not found drone to be a particular issue, while the system is certainly audible inside the cabin.

That being said, no customer is the same as the next, and many customers choose alternative J-pipes to the ATLP one. This means some customers will detect drone or rasp that has not been part of the original V2 cat-back design. To improve the ATLP product, it was decided that a resonator add-on option was needed for customers looking for a more toned down sound. The resonator we specified was an Magnaflow 10426, which matched the finish and piping diameter while adding 18" of sound-deadening surface area right under the car.

Recognizing that the customers who want a quieter sound do not want a quieter exhaust, but rather just a toned down version of what is currently produced, this resonator fit the bill well. Indeed a few cases of people wanting to avoid drone ordered the resonator option and found the exhaust to be too quiet. However, with some new reports that it was not universally accepted as a solution to ALL interior tones that people had an issue with or rasp from competitor's J-pipes, we re-evaluated the resonator spec.

The new resonator being installed on all ATLP exhausts for 3g TLs and 4g FWD TLs is a Magnaflow 10436. This is a 22" long resonator which we have been informed adds just a little more sound deadening which "quieter" people want. The sounds from the tailpipe is still aggressive, deep and sultry. The interior sound is taken to a minimum.

For those seeking an aggressive sounding system that does not drone in the ears of most compromising users, get a non-resonated ATLP. For those seeking an exhaust that steps up the look and sound of your car on the outside but has a very minimal impact on interior sound, order a resonated system with confidence! Again, we have not found in cars we have tested TLs with non-resonated V2 systems to drone. Unless you want the system to be all but unheard, do not get a resonator.

* We cannot predict how ATLP systems will sound with other manufacturers parts. Different J-pipes and deleting or changing the Primary converters will alter the sound and may do so beyond your desired level. We recommend keeping the Primary cats in place to avoid noise and legal issues that could come up.
