Smile Anyone with 2012 TL who has installed LED Strips on the front??

Hi All
I have searched for a thread on this topic, and its probably out there somewhere, but has anyone with a 2012 TL successfully installed LED strips on the front of their car?

When i see a new Audi, MB, or Chrysler with this feature, i find myself wishing that was a feature of the 2012 TL.

I am not mechanically inclined when it comes to cars so I would most likely need to have a shop do the work, but would be very interested in any advice, info, pics etc that anyone has to offer.

And given the fact that a certain loved one thinks i have spent enough money on the car already, a good fiscal strategy would also be much appreciated.

thanks!

Please, do not deface your TL by adding after market LED lights by trying to recreate the Audi look. Sure, if Acura makes these as part of the new design, its fine but aftermarket gizmos like that do not belong on a TL. I have to laugh when I see guys putting "angel eyes" on their Chevy Cobalt or buy bluish headlights to try and fool people in thinking they have HID. There are plenty of mods you can do to enhance the look of a TL and plenty have already done so but not all mods are good and trust me, you can make a fine looking car into a laughing stock. That is just my two cents of course...

Not cheesy at all. Very sharp looking, especially on a TL. I've got them, but I'm in a 3G Type S.

Agreed. I would definitely support the halos look on TL. They give the car a more aggressive and mean look.

Love the "idea of the additional illumination"; but the execution options are rarely so presentable.

I'm all for "improvements" and "upgrades" and "personalizing" - but keep it tasteful.

Anything that requires 2 way tape in the instructions is probably a bad idea, as is anything adhesive based on the front of the vehicle.

gents
Thanks for the feedback. If I move forward with this, it has to be done right and look like a dealer upgrade. No two sided tape kind of deal.

I don't think anyone can really say it looks cheesy on an Audi or MB. I believe its a trend that we will see on a lot more cars in the next two years. I think it would really look good on the 2012s, especially with the chrome that is now on the lower part of the front bumper. My grill is painted black, with a chrome outline and chrome Acura caliper, so i really think it would enhance the look of the car.

Having said all that, I still might not move forward, unless i have confidence it can be done right.

thanks again for all the feedback. I will check out kb1spec.

This looks pretty nice - you have a link for the kit you used?

Here is the link
http://www.led-tagfahrlicht.com/

I got the "Slim Line" Version. They can be dim able when you have your parking light or headlamp on OR you can disable that to have full brightness by just disconnecting one of the wire. The ONLY bad thing is that being made in Germany, it is a bit pricey. I got it for a lil over $300.

OR another solution is go to www.jlclightings.com and there are something similar to that with near or exact brightness and MUCH cheaper price.

That actually looks good, The LED's i used are smaller than those. They actually sat at the Bottom edge of where your LED sit. I had to take them off because i got a ticket in NYC because they are illegal .

To be honest with you, yours is VERY well integrated and looks very nice. I have seen some poor implementation and that is what I was referring earlier.

Don't get me wrong guys....Anything done from the manufacturer looks sharp even on the Kia Sportage but its the after market stuff that USUALLY looks tacky but here is an example of an after market upgrade that looks great!

I hope I didn't offend anyone with my opinion, we all recognize a bad after market job...it would be like a bad plastic surgery or a bad boob job (if there is such a thing *lol*)

^ yup it really depends on how good the out come will be. I have did a lot of research and photoshopped to see which is a best alternative to put the DRL LED. I have thought about putting it inside the headlamp using those strip. But that is just cosmetic looks and not much functionality. So I looked into that Nolden website and did some measurements and it barely fit. Another solution is to rigged up your bumper signal and do a retrofit LED/Signal using a custom circuit board. I have a friend who is in the process of making a custom LED circuit board for the bumper signal utilized both a standalone LED and LED/Signal.

EXCELLENT KB1! Your install is exactly what i had in mind when i teed this up.

So that i can clarify, you bought item 1740.1, correct? I was able to translate the description, but on the price link, there are two options. one costs 192,44 euros and says Preis ohne "MwSt." and the other is 229 euros and says "Preis inkl. MwSt." I know that preis ohne means price without and preis inkl. means price including, but what is MwSt?
Also if you paid someone to install these lights who did you use and what was the cost for installation?

thanks!

Actually go to this site
http://www.tmtuning.com/

and on the left selecting LED Lightings

http://www.tmtuning.com/HOME/catalog...t_product=2450

I had my friend installed it for me at his shop. What you need is to use a lift and loosen all the bottom panels. No need to take out the bumper. Hard part is to take out the foglight grill. You will need to do some trimming on the grille slits to make it seamlessly butted between the signal and foglight. This procedure took about 3 hours with the right tools.

Yours looks tasteful. With any luck they won't be like a lot of Audis I see lately where an LED or even an entire side is burned out or otherwise not operating.

LED burns out based on the quality of the housing. Some of the housing are either metal or plastic. I have a few or couple set I've tested where water goes in and moisture builds up and making the LED not functional. I had some set where they are made out plastic and I would seal up the gaps with JB weld to seal it up. Luckily "knock on wood" my still held up.
