Anybody have the backup sensors installed?

Just wondering if anyone has the backup sensors on their TL. saw them online for abt $200,and the install doesnt look that hard...The dealer is charging $700 installed and I thought that was a bit of a ripoff. Thoughts?

There are 2 parts involved:

http://acura.bernardiparts.com/Acura...7-TK4-XXX.aspx ($194.73)

http://acura.bernardiparts.com/Acura...-TK4-200A.aspx ($194.73)

= ~$400 in parts

add in ~2hrs of labor and you'er at their $700

Ok, thx. I guess I only saw the 1st part online, didnt realize it was a 2 piece kit. SO that being said, anyone have it installed on their ride?

Are they really necessary .... :rona: I never liked the looks of little holes in my rear bumper.

Stew4HD 03-23-2011 05:22 AM

IMO, the sensors are great for SUV's, vans and pick up trucks.. for cars, we have lower back windows and back-up cams!

vinnier6 03-23-2011 07:30 AM

i could see wanting them if you dont have the tech with the backup camera....

Man I need sensors for the front. I can never tell if the car is fully in my garage or not when I pull in.

Hmm, Wonder if you can install it in the front? I'm sure it has something to do with the reverse gear. So having it in the front would require a switch of some sort. Probably more trouble then its worth.

I use a laser guide that points to a spot on my dash to let me know whan I am in enough..

Tennis balls on strings still do the trick too....

Ya I have to agree with you on this. It's a nice option to have, but I hate the buttons going across the bumper.
Hopefully they will come up with a better design in the future.

promethus78 03-23-2011 03:12 PM

I guess it is nice to have the backup sensors however i personally would opt the keep the 700 bucks and just look over my shoulder. As for pulling all the way into the garage. I brought a cheap walmart mirror (the floor length ones) and leaned it against the garage wall so I could see from my driver seat when the front bumper is almost to the wall.

If you've driven a 4GTL you'll know that the rear deck/windshield is very very high for a sedan. When I turn and lean back, and look straight, i'm pretty much looking into the center of the seat. It's actually worse than an A5 coupe.

It would be horrible If I didn't have the backup cam.

Here's an excerpt from consumer guide: "Rear visibility is hampered by a tall decklid"

I looked into having them installed in my 2010 TL SH-AWD Tech; Acura of Bellevue wouldn't do it... they didn't think it was compatible or something and its redundant. But...

I love having both in my Audi. I'm not looking forward (at the camera screen) while backing up usually, but the screen is real nice for aligning and curbs. I really like having the triple-threat of the backup cam, the sensors and the auto-tilt mirrors. Since Acura added them to the 2012, I'm guessing they realized that both are expected in this (the Tech's) class.

The buttons are a bit like the satellite radio shark-fin; I'd prefer not to have them, but anybody who cares about the look probably also knows what they mean... and that it means another pricey feature.

Audi's OEM backup sensor has also a visual indicator piece installed inside the car, in addition to the beeper; and is very useful in telling how far the rear bumper is away from any obstacle by counting the number of LED's lighting up on the left/right/both end of the visual indicator.

Just wish that Acura also has some form of visual indicator as well.

No $hit! Ask me how I got that cut on the rear bumper??? :( Maybe it's the way I sit but in addition to what you said, I find that my driver head rest blocks my view a little when I turn my head left. (Umm...that's the side where the cut is).

spiritnoto 12-13-2012 12:17 PM

I work at a High School and kids don't give a grap if they walk or drive behind your car while you are backing out. Safety is the reason I have them. Pat

potmilkz 12-13-2012 01:00 PM

... um.. i think the tech package solves this problem.. unless you dont have the tech.. then a $50 back up camera system from peak will offer the same thing as back up sensors.. i trust a camera more than sensors..

Booya4139 12-13-2012 02:19 PM

Sensors are nice, wife has them on her ford escape, camera does a nice job too...
