I googled the phone #, it gets you to a Myspace page http://comment.myspace.com/index.cfm...0-e8530d95ecfb where a guy actually gave his phone number out on a comment back in 2006.

Here is the profile of the 19yr old who the number belonged to at least back in 2006.

Just caught up with this thread, this is crazy. If thats your stolen set on craigslist, then hats off to wavehogger. Kind of odd that the craigslist seller is doing the sale via text messaging. I have bought on clist before and never by text.

Giving this to the police, how can I verify these were my tires if they do seize it?

* I think I've seen this kid in my neighborhood, police said they'll try to figure it out ... wasn't very enthusiastic after faxing them info

* Anyway to match/verify these are my wheels after they buy it / retrieve it?

lol, thanks Buck. Who knows if these wheels are legit. But it seems suspicious. Unless the phone # has a new owner. I thought to myself someone either on e-bay or Craigslist may try to sell them and I took a look tonight. I thought no way, the same wheels in Queens...

I just looked at the backside of my 17" winter factory wheels and there are many stamped numbers on the backside of the spokes. I don't know if they are only labeling the wheel design, lot #, etc or if anything can be connected to your car. It's probably unlikely but who knows. Check with your dealer to be sure. But if the police question the seller and he can't provide proof of where he got them, the he's selling stolen goods. Most likely you'll get them back.

Thanks, what can I do to convince the POLICe to investigate further and call the guy? They sounded reluctant***

1) SH-AWD 09 Stock rims + tires selling all 4 = very rare right?
2) He's from my neighborhood
3) Anything else to convince them since he said how can they verify.

I think those are your rims, its very odd the same set of 18in's show up 2 days after yours are stolen, and you think the kid lives in your neighborhood. I would text the guy selling the wheels, and tell him you have the FWD TL with 17's and you want to upgrade but dont want to pay dealer prices. See what he says, he is obviously listing them to sell, you need to get them back before he sells them. If you can gather some information from him, then call the cops back. If you call the cops enough they will do something, its free to keep calling them.

Yea, if the cops aren't smart and just text or call him and either say they're the police or they tip this kid off then he'll dump the cell # and the police won't want to put that much energy into stolen wheels when they have bigger cases to deal with. So I would try to speak with whatever detective is going to be on the case and see if they can set up a meet with the kid. Then they can show up as the police and question where the wheels came from. Even if you meet th kid yourself you won't be able to do anything and then he'll disappear for sure. There may only be one shot at this. Good luck!

Just a thought and curiosity, by any chance does your tire warranty info include tire serial numbers?

Acura please be careful you may scare him off! Wait for the police to talk to you about trying to set something up if they will first. You have no proof they are your wheels. He can laugh in your face and then disappear. Did the police talk to you again?

I just went through the Michelin Tire warrant booklet and all the other books and paperwork and the books are generic without any specific serial numbers. That isn't to say that Acura themselves may have on record the Wheel and/or tire serial numbers on their factory/dealer paperwork. If you at least can get this info tomorrow from Acura then maybe you'll have solid proof for the police.

Tell him you will pay an amount considerable less (800 bucks) than his list this way you can tell if he is trying to dump them quick. Then say you want to see them to make sure they are in good condition. Maybe he will give an address. Crooks are idiots, just look how easy he was tracked.

Sounds like he is dumping them, "how much are you willing to pay?" That is not the way to negotiate. But Buck's idea may work. I just hope he doesn't say I'll come to your place or meet you somewhere. An address would be great, and a license plate # of his car or whoever he's with. Hopefully the address is his place. What if he just uses some friends house. You just know the police aren't going to want to waste their time and energy on a set of wheels.

I agree he sounds like he wants to dump these wheels. I doubt this gets much attention from New Yorks finest, your file is probably on the bottom of someones desk with thousands of other small thefts. Your in a tough spot, do you know any police officers that you could call for some advice on what direction to go? Even if he is storing these at a friends place, that person is in this as well. Based off everything I have read if the person who was found via Google and put an ad on craigslist is the person who stole your wheels, you arent dealing with a very smart individual. I would imagine a few thoughout pointed questions via text may yield some interesting info, just be careful not to give yourself away. Maybe try to call the number from a payphone if it goes to voicemail you may get a name.

The person just took some $$ off the price listed, and offered to meet @ his shop and he'll put them on for me as well LOL . . . i guess his "shop" bought the wheels from someone for sure

Give this info to your insurance company as well. They don't want to pay the claim and can help push the police to follow up.

Tell the claim rep who specifically at the police dept you've talked to and which detective is handling your case.

If he has a "shop" why didnt he post the shops name on craigslist. I know when I have searched for furniture on craigslist you get more advertisment value than actual product. I guess its possible that the person who stole your rims sold them to someone else who owns a shop, or could be trying to sound professional and more legit by saying he has a "shop", or his shop could be in his parents garage, where he has the same equipment that he used to take them off your car. Did he say he could put them back on in less than 3 min? LOL

I highly doubt the seller is the original thief. I'm on Long Island and have personal experience with car parts being stolen. The thieves flip it on the streets, and then the purchaser resells online for max value.

I'd probably go to the shop and ask some questions.

Oh and the cell phone matching a post from 2006 on myspace doesn't move me much. This is NY, especially in queens, cell phone numbers get reused all the time.

Did you try contacting the dealership to see what info they have for tha VIN#? I would imagine they have EVERYTHING on file. I would get that info, then ask the cops to meet you at the place because you have reason to believe your stolen rims are there. Let the police match the info on the tires to your paperwork.

I know what you mean, lol! They'd rather go get donuts and drive around, than to investigate!

Back in 2001, the same thing happened to me, except they left my car('88 Legend) on the old jacks they used. Me and my friend went to the junkyard and got some stocks(rims and tire) to replace the chrome rims that were stolen.

While we were putting them on the car, a cop car was passing by. They stopped and asked me if that was my car('cause it was still sitting on the jacks), lol! Right then and there, I felt like asking them where were they when the thieves were stealing my wheels!

Just can't catch a break, I guess lol!

OPINION HERE - It's not just the Police dept. and insurance companies. It's the lazy american way of doing business. I've been in retail and service for 12 years now, and people just don't give a shit. Inconsiderate & non-caring employees would look at Facebook, Youtube and Myspace before getting to your tasks, which is why I applaud companies who don't allow internet surfing or at least monitor their employees, I love that stuff.

Anyway AC2009, this just sucks, I'm so sorry that you had to go through this crap. I hope justice is served to this little shit who stole the rims, in one way or another? Ya feel me?
