Acura Dealers stocking GM Synchromesh?

So, I took my 2011 6MT in for regular interval service and asked about anything they could do about the grind I experience when engaging 2nd and 3rd gear. The SA recommended GM Synchromesh and said they had it in stock @ $25/Qt.

Anyone else heard of dealers stocking GM Synchromesh, or witnessed improved engagement after swapping the OEM MTF in favor of GM Synchromesh?

I swapped the honda fluid for GM syncromesh modified friction fluid and it cured my third gear grind.

Many thanks. One question, however: Does it adversely affect the gearbox at all? I once read that prolonged use corroded the synchro and dog teeth of of certain trannies. Can't speak on the merit of that, just want to cover all my bases before I OK the fluid swap.

no, it does not have negative effects on the transmission. You'll be 100% fine- Honda guys have been running that stuff for the better part of 15 years without issues.

Two things though:
1. make sure its FRICTION MODIFIED syncromesh.
2. Buy it from a GM dealership. $25/quart is an incredible rip off. I'm in Canada and I was able to buy that stuff for $15/quart. All the Acura dealer is doing is buying another stores/dealers fluid and marking it up BIG TIME.

Additionally, I've ran the stuff in my previous civic which was starting to show more frequent 3rd gear grinds. It helped a lot. I still had the occasional grind, like once a month, but it was better than grinding 5-10 times a week. I'm also running it in my TL now for the last 18,000km with no adverse effects.

another thing to note; if your synchros are too far gone, no matter what kind of fluid will help you and will need to replace sychro set.

^this is true. It might help, but it won't alleviate the problem in it's entirety, hence why my civic would still occasionally grind.

thats cool. Glad they stock it now. I remember years ago some dealers would hand you some BS about voiding your warranty if you installed it.
I have some of the Synchromesh sitting in my garage.
Justnspace should I install it in my car? what do you think I should do ?

Got my car back from the dealer about an hour ago. As I drove back to work, I was genuinely amazed at the difference it made. Shifts felt like I was slicing butter with a hot knife. The precision felt almost surgical in nature.

Unfortunately there was still a bit of grind at the very end of 2nd's first engagement, but I suspect the synchro may be to blame.

Switching gears real quick (haha), I had a TLX loaner for the day... In short, it's no 4G TL. The new gadgets were cool, but the electronic nannies were annoying. Overall, a numbing experience in comparison. Wouldn't upgrade if they paid me. Loved the headlights, however.

Mine is still under warranty. Any issues on switching to GM FM? I don't want to void my drivetrain warenty.

As is mine. The dealer made the reccomendation, had the fluid in stock, and performed the service. As far as I'm concerned, if it isn't under warranty (which I highy doubt) then it's no longer my problem, haha.
