Acura Care?
I know Acura/Honda vehicles are very reliable, but with the amount of electronics going on with today's cars, anything thing that goes wrong would mean $$$.
My new car (to be picked up tomorrow) will have commuting duties and I expect I will use up the OEM warranty in 3 years. I plan to keep the car for a long time so does it make sense to get a 7 yr/120K warranty?
If I do, I plan to get it online. I don't think the dealer will match it or willing to match it since I know that no matter what they offer, it will be far more expensive than the one online.

I believe Bob Leab @ Hyannis Honda will give you a 7yr/120k $0 deductible Acura Care warranty for somewhere around $1250. Contact him: bobl dot sales at hyannishonda dot com

The price I mentioned above from Bob are for Acura Care on brand new cars with less than 6000 miles on the odometer and within the first year of purchase. At least that was the case last year when I bought it for my 2010 TL.

Typically a suckers bet, but if you decide to buy it get the Acura one (not aftermarket cov).

1. You can't afford the loss. This is why you buy homeowners insurance even after the mortgage is paid off. Or you have a young family you want to protect so you get term life. Or medical insurance.
2. You are legal required to buy it. Car liability insurance.
3. You have some special reason to believe it will pay off. For example you are buying an item that has a lot of new technology that you plan on keeping for a while.
Consumer Reports is famous for recommending against extended warranties, yet they recommended getting one when buying one of the early rear projection TVs because the failure rates where coming in high. I followed their advice and a good thing too because I had a lot of trouble with mine.
I also think getting one for a new Acura TL is not that bad an idea. There is an awful lot of technology in these things.
The TL and the RPTV are the only two warranties I have ever bought.
But when you do definitely don't take what your dealer offers without shopping around. Hyannis Honda's AcuraCare offer was 1/2 of what my dealer wanted for a third party plan. These third party guys go bankrupt at the drop of a hat and you end up with bupkis. I have a lot more faith in Honda being around down the road.

Honda cars are very dependable, so I would self insure by taking $1500 and depositing into a seperate account for anything other then normal maintance such as oil changes, brakes, and tires for example.
My Acura had 155k miles without any issues so I ended up with $1500 plus interest when I traded her in for a my new car.

it's a car-drive it
decided against getting the extended warranty on my 06 tsx when it was new. Glad I did. The factory warranty ended when my car was 18 months old (50,000 miles). No problems with my car (knock-on-wood)
